Consumer Reports: Buy Your Bikes From Specialty Retailers

JUNE 25, 2004 -- YONKERS, NY (BRAIN)--If bike shoppers take heed to Consumer Reports, specialty retailers could see a bump in business. As part of an article reviewing mountain bikes in the July issue, Consumer Reports advise consumers to buy bikes from specialty retailers.

A section titled "Cheap Bikes Are Not Bargains" noted that while Wal-Mart and Toys 'R' Us sell millions of bikes with brand names like Huffy, Mongoose, Roadmaster and Schwinn, consumers are better off spending their money with specialty retailers. Consumers get what they pay for when buying bicycles at specialty stores, the magazine said.

"You'll get a lot more bike for the buck," the article concluded.

Consumer Reports has a circulation of more than 5 million paid subscribers.

i wonder what the top price of the bikes they looked at for the magazine was. I can't see them looking at a $2000 bike and recommending it...
