I got fitted for an N95 back in med school. and even with that pre-full-beard level of scruffiness they couldn't get it to seal.
so on the wards I'd use a PAPR. which would be hilarious to wear around the airport.
I got fitted in the fire department for N95s, Respirators, and full face SCBA masks. Of course I was hairless then as now
