Things are good here in lovely Saratoga Springs this a.m.. So far, the sun is shinning and I've got my HT in the Jeep for the weekly Thurs. night group ride. I've heard rumors about "strong storms" rolling through here this afternoon, so if you have any pull with the sunshine gods, please put in a good word for me! :D

Going to order a few things for my truck today, then schedule a massive tune-up... I can leave my truck at the dealer while we are in Jackson next week, so the timing works out well. I'm finally going to get my 33" MTs mounted!!!

We officially closed on the old house yesterday - checks should be here today (buyer's bank didn't overnight them), so we'll finally have some money again.

kinda rough time at Dalton

had a hard time staying awake driving there (maybe that had to do w/only having 12 hours of sleep since Sat morn.)

on my preride I flatted (ok, time to walk back, change the flat & make the start)

on the 1st lap, dabbed right before this technical dh section, didnt get my foot clipped in, got squirly(sp?), hit a tree (ok, keep going)

after finally catching this one dude at the end of lap 2, we go over the over, and right before that little drop in (by the pond), this dude (now known to me as Sally), practical stops, so I try to not slam into him, but I grabbed too much front brake and down I go (hard), I get up and see about 15 people at the start/finish looking like this  , I get a few "are you ok?" - check to see if anything is broken (on me), get on slowly, take off

spend lap 3 catching back up to Sally, this time i pass him before the over, tonight we had to do an extra lap, and as soon as I pass the S/f, I notice my back tire is FLAT!!

ugh, the end result

a DNF and (looked much worse before it was cleaned)

Our builder basically said all the people he had lined up (mason, carpet installers, etc.) were backed up, so he's having to do most of the work himself... which is why there's still been progress, just very slow progress. He also said he lost a few guys from his crew and has been scrambling to find other people to work. Kind of making excuses, kind of justifying the delays. He said that the carpeting is now scheduled to go in next week, and the kitchen cabinets should go in over the weekend. So hopefully by the end of next week, we can start getting things set in the house... moving furniture to the appropriate rooms, etc.

But, since we are going to be in Jackson next week, it looks like we'll just wait and see how things stand 2 weeks from now when we get back... perhaps move in that weekend.

Ultimately I don't care that things have been delayed... it happens, for the most part it's not something our builder could have controlled. But I would have liked to have known that things were going to slow down rather than just guess why more work isn't getting finished.

Yea... he's got other commitments as well, and said until the rest of the molding/trim comes in, there's only so much they can do. So they are putting in their 4-5 hours in the evenings rather than during the day. Once the tile is done and the molding is in they will be putting in more time at our house... which should be tomorrow.

We have also been holding the last payment as incentive for him to acutally finish (recommended to us by several people who have recently built). But our builder doesn't feel like he should have to pay out of pocket to build our house... I can understand both sides, so once we get the checks from the closing we are going to give him the final payment and see where that stands.

Our builder knows we are pretty frustrated right now, so...

Ok cool...
As an architect we're the person who pushes the contractor for the owners... so I know how it can get sometimes.

The big thing is, momentum is easier to keep than to get. So you just gotta pedal your ass off whenever there's an uphill, because if you lose your momentum, you're walking. I've been amazed at how much stuff I am able to do as long as I keep my speed up. Last night I made a hill that I didn't think I could do on the SS, there are always new things to conquor
