Don't know who's seen this yet, sure people have, but figured I'd share it.
Brendan Fairclough on an S-Works Demo 8, there it is.

Did they just use the dremel on the weldings? Those Demos weren't carbon by the way. The paint looked sick though.
Yeah. What the hell? Usually no photos means there is something new to the bike. What's up with that?Did they refuse any detail shots of the frame just for the hype?
Just looking at the pictures present on the web makes his statement a little difficult to believe as well. Unless they are now hydroforming two sections and grinding off all the welds, then it appears to be a composite. Kind of hard to refute that at this point.Did they just use the dremel on the weldings?

You can't see anything in those pics. I think they do use smooth welds (double pass to smooth out the beads). I saw the bikes all week long and talked with Troy and Brendan a couple times. I did not directly ask either of them if they were carbon because you could see welds under the paint plain as day. I checked them out and they were just very nicely painted Demos not the carbon one we saw pics of at Whistler. The bikes looked great but were not carbon.Did they just use the dremel on the weldings?

Well that didn't work very well.Well there you go. Perhaps the 'no photo' crap was to create some hype.
I'm fairly certain they are quite happy racking up world championships on their "8 year old" design.Well that didn't work very well.
Maybe instead they should have leaked something about a new suspension design to replace the 8-year old triple-stays rather than an S-works paint job.
That swingarm design has been stiff as fvck and really light for years. Coming up with something else for the sake of people who can't tell what they're looking at would be a little silly.Maybe instead they should have leaked something about a new suspension design to replace the 8-year old triple-stays
Exactly. It may have 6 stays but somehow they can still build up 35lb DH sleds with it that survive under guys like Brendan. That swingarm design has been stiff as fvck and really light for years. People also get pretty hung up on a couple thousand year old murder mystery....People get so hung up on that for some reason. "huh huh, lots of stuff, me not like, SMASH!! SMASH!!"
It allows them to put the shock wherever they feel is optimal. And had the benefit of making shorter chainstays and a stiffer back end.I really don't get it. All it is is a split chainstay on a horst link bike. From an engineering standpoint, doing it with two tubes is adding more rigidity with about the same amount of materia as a single piece.....like extra ribs in an I-beam.

But it's so CONFUSING to look at!!It allows them to put the shock wherever they feel is optimal. And had the benefit of making shorter chainstays and a stiffer back end.
What's not to like?
