I buillt myself a rigid fork.
It uses streamline 4130 tubing (think Top Fuel dragster wing struts...).
This is to go with a custom frame I've been working on for over a year now. Someday I'll get it finished.

You guys are a nice bunch, I thought you might like a look.

Glad you like it. Not sure on color choice if any yet.

Fixtured by machining the streamline profile into 6061 clamping blocks mounted to the fixture plate. Steerer tube in a V block also mounted to the fixture plate. Indicated everything, tacked in sequence.


Most material I already had on the shelf. I don't build bikes, but I suppose I could.

Yes, it's 430mm a/c., and I made an axle to work with my 20mm hub.

The axle is the easy part.

very slick.

looking at this and the Doberman fork thread, I could see 20mm being used on the front of 20" BMX setups. My guess is a hollow 20mm axle should be lighter and stiffer than a strong 3/8" axle. I definitely think the "bolt" is nicer looking than a "nut"

It's only been sitting tacked on the jig for like 6 months...
I just have to fab up brake mounts and cable routing and pick a color and......

I get a ton of enjoyment from designing and building but I'm really itchng to ride this thing.

holy smokes. Incredibly innovative, incredible craftsmanship. not much more to say. Like the brake tab mount inbetween the stays. What rear hub are you going to run with that huge thru axle out back? and does the post clamp thread into the end of the peirced top tube? so smooth... can't wait to see more.


just thought I'd ask.... any closer photos of how the rear axle (and hub too?) function? is it similar to a Leeson?

BikeSatori, it's not surprising you're right on target with the seat clamp!
I'll get some pics here in a bit. I think you'll like it.

That axle is just a stainless dummy axle.

I've tried several caliper mounting designs but I think I'm going to go with simple mounting tabs for the caliper.
I've wanted the caliper there from the beginning, there's just not a whole lot of room.

The drops are just like the Leeson (that's crazy, identical drop out design going on half way around the globe.)
Mine are threaded so I can screw in a custom peg and still get the wheel out without removing the peg.
A threaded cap will install when not using pegs.

That stem started as a Profile HIP.
I call this one my HIP Replacement (ha ha).

I counterbored the top and made a flush fit cap that is threaded underneath to accept a long (aluminum) shaft that is tightened from below the fork.
Similar in function to a Head lock only without the visible fastener.
I'm all about clean lines. I also removed the Profile script on the front cap.

The clamping piston was unmodified.

Checking in with a progress report...

I know I'm going to catch some grief for not leaving it raw but I went with 'Cool Vanilla' for the color. It looks great with the red components.

I've wanted the caliper here from the beginning


She still needs a final detailing but still damn pretty.


14.5" chainstays with a 2.2" tire


I'll get some final shots once the seats done at the upholstery shop.

wow wow i could cry.

i was expecting to see the marmoset hub but the I9 looks so good.

truley an amazing bike. the internal seat post clamp is beautiful, i want! haha. the clamp is sooo much better than anything bmx is doing right now.

what tool do you use to tighten the rear axle and post clamp?

i can't even believe this bike, holy sh!t. i didn't know hope made red stuff btw. but oh my god, i'm drooling over every single piece of that bike, especially the 14.5 inch chainstays.

I love the cable routing idea too, glad to see some of the sleak roadie things are converting into sick mtb. :-)
