Ok, so we let the dog out at 6:00 AM. He proceeded to bark fairly continuously, until wifey went out and dragged him in. I told her that I was interested in a bark collar, because I don’t ever want to be ‘those asshole neighbors’.
She kind of flipped out at the suggestion, calling it cruel, and he ‘wasn’t that bad’. She is now pissed at me about it.
Any of you have experience with this?

Morning, could have slept another few hours, but work beckons. Rain is forecast for the next 5 days so in a way I'm glad that I put the truck tires on yesterday. Sitting on wet concrete trying to put those heavy suckers on would bite. I get to spend today in the getto. First time in a long while that I have wanted to put on the kevlar

Wife and I just got one for our new dog, not for the barking, but because the dog needs to leave the cat alone already and every attempt we've made to break her of it has failed. The new collar has worked like a charm. The collar dials from 1 to 100. Putting it at 25 is enough...it's not even as hard as a static shock you might get from a light switch. It's better than the dog maiming the cat.

BTW, we did this at the suggestion of our dog trainer.

Any particular reason he's barking? Obviously you want to curtail obsessive barking without cause, but he is a puppy so he might just be finding his borker.

They do offer citronella spraying bark collars. Perhaps she wouldn't consider that as cruel?

Ive tried our dogs e-collars on myself and wouldn't consider them to be cruel. It's not a jolt of electricity (on lower settings that is). It is just a slightly uncomfortable feeling that helps break their focus and return it to you.

OT today. That was probably dumb of me.
No one ever said you were smart!

Our DSO is an asshole so I probably can't comment. But we've definitely pondered something like that.

Rice cooker died last night, rip lil' Cuisinart, you served me well for the last 13 years.

Anybody have/use an Instant Pot for rice and other things? Seems like a magical mystery machine of food making power, do I spend the extra money to buy one, or just get another cheap rice cooker?

Not planning on doing anything productive today, just researching rice cookers.

Just get one and wear it yourself for awhile... then you can make your own informed decision.

Well, they just use an ultrasonic noise that humans can't hear to break their concentration. It's not a shock collar. I doubt it would do much...
I have used the ultrasonic thingy before. It worked and is not cruel. It isn't painful, just annoying.

Know what is more annoying? A dog that barks constantly.

The thing I used wasn't a collar but looked like a birdhouse. So it didn't train the dog to not bark, but not stand in this spot and bark.

For the love of all things holy, get the collar. We have been fortunate at our current residence that we have not had any incessantly barking dogs for almost 20 years... but at our last house, we had several neighbors with non-stop barking mutts and it is maddeningly obnoxious.

You are smart, you are beautiful, and you are wonderful. Don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't be. Don't let them define or pigeon hole you. Pigeon holes are for pigeons. Spread your wings and fly @Pesqueeb!
Now you're just being a dick. :homer: Cut that shit out.

"Apparently"? Were you shitfaced when you did it such that you just realized this morning that you'd initiated this task? NTTAWWT. :p

Hello monkeys! Yesterday's adventure in urology was an eye opener, the assessment (NOT diagnosis) is ct1b but could also still be ct1a. I had thought it had gone from a 1 to a 2 instead of a to b so, basically the earliest possible detection. Specialists see things differently. Monday morning is TURP scan or MRI, biopsy sometime after that. This is the first time I have seen this doctor, he made a point of saying that PC is over diagnosed and over treated.

Back to biking, I'm gonna reward myself with an XC ride on the skinniest possible tires. Might even wear spandex. Skies the limit?

Worth a try actually, we had issues with Alice barking and a shitty ultrasonic speaker that reacts to barking along with some training has fixed 90% of it.

The rest is just my bat-shit crazy neighbor yelling at her when she gets near the fence, which of course she reacts to. Just hoping the bitch next-door dies soon (Antivax Trumper with tons of health problems, one can hope) and that'll solve that.

there was a guy i knew in college that illegally had a dog in his campus apartment (no pets). one time he was talking about debarking and i almost punched him straight in the face.

There is a tremendous amount of pedestrian traffic around my house. When I first moved here my dog would go nuts every-time someone walked by. It took a week of telling him no, perhaps an occasional squirt from the garden hose and he stopped barking.

Crazy, almost like you can train dogs. Of course if you don't, they will train you. All depends on who is smarter and has the most will power. Waiting to see how that works out for @rideit
