a friend of mine was thinking of getting a new 05 bighit fsr :clue: . he was wondering if there were any pros; cons of this bike. :help: does the 24 inch effect the bike that much for down hill and would it be worth it to buy a 26 inch conversion kit for it? Thanks.

Just get an 06 bighit 1, it already has a 26' rear wheel...you can get them for around the same price i bet too.

The 05 Big Hit is sweet. The 24" wheel debate has been beat to death. Some like it, some dont. If you can get the 05 for a great deal, get it. Check out the 06 and compare the price and build list and make a decision. The Big Hit is a great bike regaurdless if it has a 26" or 24" rear wheel.

It'll be fine. Maybe a 26" rear wheel would be better for your friend but hey, it's not the end of the world. The bike'll ride fine.

I have one and like it. The rear 24 doesnt change things that much. The stickers come right off and it looks much better. Ive got mine with a 7 inch 888rc and it feels great.

here is a newb ass question, so bear with me..with the 24" rear and 26" front it just gives you a steeper head tube angle along with easier pedaling right? i mean, its like the smaller the wheel is the faster the acceleration and stopping and pedaling effiencely correct? if not, or if i am missing anything let me know..i rode a bullit with a 24" rear, it wasn't that much different, he said 24" or 26" doesn't bother him either way, but if your bike comes with a 24" or 26" rear it isn't worth upgrading..that was his opinion on the whole tire setup

Its not just a question of 24 vs 26 :mumble:

Both bikes have the full monty Bighit Expert/ FSR III rear shock size of 8.75 x 2.75 travel I think is 208mm.

The 03/04/05 Bighit has the 2 travel/4 geometry options AND 3 progressive spring rate options built right into the frame. The 2006 doesnt have any of that except 2way adjustable geometry. How ever the 06 has the advantage of having a 26inch rear wheel. I dont think its easy for the 2004 to run a 26 inch rear wheel if possible at all. Those are the major differences I think.

Also, the 2003-2004-2005 models have its link directly attached to the inside of the mainframe. The 2002&2006 models have their links attached to the outside of their mainframe.

Which do you prefer? (it goes without saying that the ideal bighit frame is a combination of 2003 - 2004 - 2005 link adjustability with 2006 26" rear wheel  )

2003 - 2004 - 2005 link

2002 & 2006 link

Bottom line 03/04/05 Suspension&Frame > 06 Suspension

06 Rear Wheel Argueably > 03/04/05

The 05 shock is a 8.75x2.5 so it has 7.5".

You can replace it with a 8.75x2.75 and get a little over 8" of travel very easily.

Wrong,

Bighit Expert/DH/Pro = FSR III
8.75 x 2.75 = 8.75 x 2.75

Bighit Comp = FSR I & FSR II

8.75 x 2.5 = 8.75 x 2.5

See, nothing has changed in that regards.
