i'm running a dura-ace ss super short cage rear derailer on my dh bike
and was wondering if there is any performance benefits of
running a 12-25 9 speed cassette over a 12-27 9 speed cassette
i'm running a single 38T saint chainring and MRP chainguide.

what size road cassette are people running for best results ?

If your tall gear is not to tall for you and your short gears are not to short then what you have now is fine.

If your tall gear is not to tall for you and your short gears are not short enough then a 27 may help.

If your tall gear is to tall for you and your short gears are not short enough then perhaps a smaller chainring may be the way to go.

Gearing is a really personal thing so its really what is best for you.

go with an 11 tooth small cog

going from a 12 to an 11 will enable you to drop 2 teeth off your front chainring (better ground clearance) and at the same time have a taller/harder low gear... a 36 x 11 is a bigger gear than a 38 x 12

i have been running an 11-25 with a 36 ring all year with no isues, not even on the world cup track at MSA that was super fast
