a good friend of mine has 1500 lazy bones to drop on a DJ / all rounder hardtail... what do you guys recommend... preferabally a pre-built bike, not a frame and custom parts build...

thanks

IH Yakuza HT's seem to be more toward the "all-rounder" end of the spectrum, but they're pretty sweet for the $$. Supergo has 'em cheap. Also:
Giant STP - supposedly awesome geometry
Gary Fisher Bigg'ns - I don't know anything about these
Kona Cowan, etc. -
Devinci Hucker, etc. -
Norco Shore hardtails and Supercross hardtails -
New Commencal bikes - more available in Europe?
Scott Timo Pritzel bike - again, in Europe?
24-7, DMR, Planet X, other UK stuff
Does NPJ offer a complete?
New DK MTX(?) bike
Craftworks Rail
Keewee HT's (available as a complete?)
Felt Jumpshot, etc.

If it were me, I'd try to decide what kind of riding I'd most be doing:
Allround/FR/trail riding - Iron Horse
Street and DJ's - New Commencal or Felt
Compromise - Giant STP, Kona, IH
