Ok.

With a future frame upgrade in mind. Have an ironhorse Sunday at the moment but need to buy some new forks. So what would be the disadvantage of running a 27.5" fork on a 26" frame and wheels?

your front wheel will have slightly more offset. otherwise not much as far as i understand...
Marginally more offset and more axle to crown height. The front end will be a little taller, ditto the BB, and the head angle a little slacker, but the increase in offset, and corresponding decrease in trail should help offset some of the slower steering feel.

I'd still buy a 26" fork and keep the standard wheel size, but it's not like the bike is going to explode if you put a 650b fork on it.

As mentioned, the fork will have slightly more offset. Typical numbers for a 26" fork range between 39mm to 42mm, 42mm to 45mm for 27.5". The difference can be miniscule.

The MINIMUM axle to crown will be ~10mm more on a 27.5" fork....but you might already be running your sanctions high in the crowns.

It's entirely possible that you can achieve the exact same set-up with a new 27.5" fork. A 27.5" fork will future proof your purchase. The difference will be nil...which sums up 27.5" wheels entirely IMO.

Some manufacturers are choosing to manufacture one fork and market it as both 26" and 27.5" compatible (Marzocchi, X-Fusion).
