Some bling for the roadie forum.

Did I just say "bling"? There's nothing bling about me

As you can see, I splurged and got me a new post (Miche Supertype) with my new saddle (B17N). I so love it -- it looks like it'll be just as awesome functionally as form -- and I don't want to cover it up with a saddle bag. Any suggestions on how to carry the basics on frame?

What's the little bag called that sits on your toptube where it meets the headtube? I ride with some people who swear by 'em. Nice upgrades btw.

Here's a little trick:
Take a water bottle, and cut the top off about 1/3 of the way down. Put everything you need in there, tube, tire levers, CO2, cell phone, everything you need, then push the top back on, over the bottom. It'll hold on pretty well, keep everything in place, no rattling, plus a clean look.

Thanks! I got the nashbar goodie bag -- which is what you're suggesting and another product along that line is the Bento Box. But it seems to get in the way of my knees when I stand to climb. I need to smooth out my technique.

That's a great idea, but during the hotter months, I easily drink 4 bottles on a long ride in the mountains.

The post? Actually, it seems far far more solid than the OEM post.

I have an old micro saddle bag that cut all the straps off of stuffed a tube three tire levers and a micro-inflate with two C02 cartridges and 4 dollars all wrapped up in a old cycling sock and stuff that in my jersey back pocket it’s neat and clean and I don’t have that silly bag swaying off my seat post. When I go on a longer ride I put a mini-pump in my back pocket too along with a two tire patches taped to it incase I have two blowouts and no more tubes.

Dag, sounds like maybe you could look into a CamelBak. One of the road-specific ones though, all sleek and aero, they carry about as much water as you'll need. Plus they'll keep you a little cooler on a hot day, just stick some ice in there too, you'll lower your core temp by a degree or two.
This one is pretty cool: http://camelbak.com/rec/cb_prod.cfm?catid=6&product_id=230&selector=true
They have a couple of smaller ones. It gets the weift off of the bike, so it'll be a tad more responsive too.
Anyway, long road rides rule. I did a quick 2-hour jaunt this AM, first road ride in probably 4-5 months, and I forgot how much I missed it. Riding with a good buddy rules.

While that idea is a good one. I dislike putting stuff in my jersey. And I already carry a rain/wind jacket back there.

I know y'all, I'm a difficult person.

I've thought about a water only camelbak -- I've got a blowfish -- but I just dislike stuff on my back. It probably has to do with my ex-wife ;)

I'm jealous of your AM ride. It's still too cold here at 5:30am, which is when I'd need to start riding during the week.

Nice saddle... needs a proper bike though. :eviltongu

Let us know how long it takes to break the saddle in. I'm thining of getting a Brooks this spring and want it totally broken in before STP. I hate new saddles.

I used to be the same way, but I can't ride my mountain bike without one anymore, it's just too weird. Luckily my buddy had all of the gear this ride, I was pretty much empty as far as gear goes. It took me forever to get my "stuff" that I bring on a Mtn ride down, hopefully I can get into the habit with road bikes a little quicker. I do need to at least have tube/stuff...
Yeah, the ride was great, into a couple of canyones where there wasn't much breeze, so it got a little warm at points. Love the speed you get on a road bike though, nothing like it in the dirt...

YAY, I love cats, I have a white one that looks pretty much like yours, but yours looks like a male.

I have four other kitties as well, I just love 'em all so much, that's all. :D

I agree, new bike. But I've been searching and decided that since I like my bike, i'm not going to settle for anything less than what's right for me.

I've only got one ride on it, 30 miles and was fine. Tho I did heat up the saddle and applied two coats of Proofide three days before the short ride. I'll keep ya posted. So far, I'm happy.

Oh, yeah, i always ride my mtb with my camelbak... in part to carry more stuff, but also for the spine protection :D

I like having all my stuff on frame for my roadie cuz I ride it a lot more and like not having to worry about if I have everything... just dress and go.

What makes you think my cat's male? She's an albino :) one blue and one green eye, all white. But I understand that albinos are partially deaf. Between that and having been stupid and declawing her years ago, she's easily startled and frightened. Like if I come home with my helmet on, she stares at me like a stranger until she smells me.
