Another n00b question

I did a search and didn't find anything related this, so sorry if it has been covered. Maybe it is just a stupid question ;)

My bike currently has Mavic 117 rims. Today while riding I took a small drop (like, a foot at the most) and the front rim morphed into a different shape while I crashed spectacularly. I am thinking about getting a beefier rim, but don't know how wise it would be to mix rims (as the ones I am looking at are heavier by 100-200g) or should I just wait until I can afford to replace them both (which means no riding for a while :( )?

your front and back rims dont need to be the same at all..its whatever you prefer and of course what you can afford...if you bent one rim, replace it or it my need to be trued (go to your local bike shop) only if it isnt that bad....so def. check with them you may not need to replace your rim!

Thanks for the input. The rim cracked at the seam so I am not sure I would trust it. Turns out it may not be the only thing I broke. Looks like I may have a broken elbow- I go to the specialist today to verify. Good times!
