I am looking for a plain black jersey and I saw among others Pearl Izumi now have this anti-odor bamboo carbon polyester. Does it really work?

Its difficult to find a plain black jersey with a good race fit. Let me know if you have any suggestions that is not crazy priced.

Well, old school Polypro jerseys stank, but I noticed the new artificial fabrics don't seem to retain odors...

That is what I was thinking too. The only jersey I have is my old Pearl Izumi which is I bought some time in the 90s which is actually black but I have not felt too baked.

I agree; I have several jerseys that have been in fairly constant use for 5+ years and don't smell. I do machine wash with detergent, so maybe that has something to do with it. I am not sure that permanent stink is really a huge problem with modern fabrics as long as you wash the thing regularly and thoroughly. Not sure I have any specific recommendations for you as far as a black jersey. I have a Capo Modena jersey, which is pretty nice- good fit, full zip, silicone on the bottom, nice material. But it is not totally black.

Descente has the stuff made with ColdBlack, or something like that. It actually lowers temps. Cost a lot, but the only way I would buy black.
I went with the Descente Icefil jersey. A little pricey but I really like the fit and look and I more need one good jersey than several cheaper ones.

The bamboo material turns out to be a hoax so screw Pearl Izumi

Thank you to everybody for the helps and suggestions!

Most ant-odor fabrics use silver nan-particles to kill the microbes that cause stink. Problem is that it can wash out and cause serious environmental issues.

I like the idea of line drying clothes. Saves energy to boot.
Adding a little baking soda to the rinse cycle of your clothes can help too. Raises the PH of your clothes to a level that microbes do not like.

I found out its only my really really old base layer shirts which gets stinky. The newer stuff is fine.

We line dry most or clothing already. Only wish I could do it outside.

I will try the baking soda too besides leaving them in vinegar before washing.

It works but you have to cut little strips to roll up and stuff up your nose.

Lot's the funk we get is from our bodies and not the fabric. Some folks smell more maybe from diet? I raced with guys that just plain stunk. Others less so. Polypro does get pretty funky pdq but only once it gets a tiny bit sweaty and it'll get washed after one use anyway like everything else. I wouldn't sweat it.

Wool has good anti odor properties and some companies are doing merino blends more suitable to warmer weather but its expensive. My friend in Wellington likes this company's products a lot but I haven't bought any myself (or any other cycling clothing in quite a while):

Couple of other brands know for merino (there are tons of others these days):

i have a few of those black swobo jersey's that bonktown dumps here and there. no complaints for the money. i never feel hot in them, nor have I ever had a bad smell on 'em. besides the ugly graffiti logo, the worst part about them is the pockets sag a good bit when weighted.
