Amen!profro said:MikeT... Skill has nothing to do with age.
Snowshoe had the guts to do away with all the bracket crap and just offer a simplier (more competitive) system. Much like Europe and Australia. Intro for true first timers. An Amateur class with a few break down in ages, and Open for anyone who thinks they're a bada$$. If you don't like it race a NORBA so you can get your fix from getting on the podium in a class of 5.
Plus take this into consideration, it was a very tough ~5 minute run on widely varying terrain. It reaquires a lot of strength and skill to have a clean, solid run. I applaud Snowshoe for offering a real race course. Not these 2:30 minute speed runs with not enough tech to seperate competitors.
I much prefer the snowshoe categories. Who wants to podium at a Norba event where you only had to beat 6 other guys to get on the podium. I think it raises everyone's game to braoden the categories and a good result is really a good result! It makes me want to get faster so I can be in the mix. I rather have a tough challenge then an easy podium any day.MikeT said:what does the category breakdown have to do with norba? Seems the category breakdown used in Snowshoe Race #2 puts pretty big gaps WITHIN the categories - the Mens Amateur 18-39, had freakin' 40 people with a gap of 2min between 2nd place, and 35th place. Not to mention that's a pretty broad age range
MikeT said:ofcourse the bigger the field, the more competitive it is, but for the guys/gals who are in the lower half of the results, it's a lot harder to move up - kind of discouriging especially if you got 40 people in your category.
Valid point.dhbuilder said:ok.
we get it.
you obviously have the skills and ability to do a much better job of race organizing than the snowshoe crew.
we are anxiously awaiting the announcment of your vastly superior series.
until then go rain on someone elses parade.
because everyone there this weekend had a blast.
no matter what their placing was.
Depends on what type of person you are. I finished in the last half of those 40 people you talk about and I'm not discouraged at all. Just the opposite - now I'm beyond motivated to ride more, and I had the best time there over the whole weekend and that is what it is about. Sure, I want to get become a better and faster rider because I'm competitive, but it's about having fun and the comradarie of it all. I may be sitting here in my office, but I'm thinking about the weekend and what an awesome time i had. I did not nearly have this much fun at Norba # 2 at Sugar where they break down 100 different age and skill groups.MikeT said:ofcourse the bigger the field, the more competitive it is, but for the guys/gals who are in the lower half of the results, it's a lot harder to move up - kind of discouriging especially if you got 40 people in your category.
I must have left my gear bag in zee puma cage. Not to mention my truck must have been used as a temporary holding pen for a gaggle of zee puma.profro said:Oh those puma cages are smelly.

true........however.....you also need fitness, commitment, and the ability to hang it out there..........(to do well) which typically comes much easier the younger you are plus you get to heal faster........................profro said:MikeT... Skill has nothing to do with age.

and also because the vibe there the entire weekend was great.profro said:Because they are doing more for the DH scene in the South and Mid-Atlantic region than anyone else. Lifts, trails, races, terrain, etc.
Agreed.......dhbuilder said:SDH.
while i do see you valid point.
here's my take on old guys racin d.h.
the guy that won the 40+ class is probably ten years younger than me and trains for racing.
he earned every second that he put on john and i.
he deserved it.
and in no way did it take away from the good times we had.
when i got to the bottom after my timed run, and gathered my breath back up.
i was in the midst of a pack of old 40+ d.h. riders who all had BIG smiles on their faces.
and we were all commenting about the guys our age who have long since given up living an active life.
i have just as much respect for the winner of our class all the way down to the guy with the slowest time.
because we were out there.
livin life and havin a frikkin blast.
and yeah.
how bizarre is wearing multi layers of clothes in july ?
see ya in august.
look me up.
i'll be the only one riding a DH9 (black)
where did all those bikes go ?
the mt. used to be crawlin with em.

Everyone went ape **** on him just for saying that HE wasent going to be going back up to snowshoe. I love it up there i just think its funny how any critisim is immediatly deemed as untrue.
