I was only joking dudes, sorry if I caused offense. I was just having a lighthearted moan..

And Joel I believe you'd be biased anyway, so you are gonna praise anything Doc puts his work into.

And no I haven't seen bad welds in person, but in pics I've seen some nasty welds! See Ventana- now theres awesome welds!

Not again. So who have you been talking to ? Have you ever seen a brooklyn in person?

WARNING:

Dont call me a jackass Joel, just because all you Brooklyn guys get so uptight about a little observation, I was only asking, no need to get offensive.

Carry on brown nosing Doc, all I'm saying is his bikes are awesome but some of the welds are questionable.

Dont like my opinion? Dont read it. Its a free country.

Sorry.

Yeah I bet!, more like you have seen ****ty welds, and are trying to cover it by asking to only discuss DOCS ****TY WELDS via PM.

Correct?

Lighten up dudes!

Um guys, did I make a mistake buying a usual 9 speed cassette with a sram 9.0 derailleur? I noticed an article on the bmw uk site that had a FQ with a road derailleur and close ratio cassette? Wassup with that? Anyone care to elaborate?Knuck
I had a ****mano 9 spd cass and a sram 9 rear derailleur on the tmx with no problams. I think you'll be just fine. Next bike will have no shimano on there - all sram baby!

Then you shouldn't have participated.

Knucks - I run a normal sram gearing on my FQ and it works fine. I think the guy in Dirt (Ged's bike by the way. I think.) just simply likes the close ratio cassette. No worries it'll fit fine.

knuck, some people like to run road clusters and ders because it's a shorter cage. less chain slap, tighter shifting, etc. you can run fullsize mtb stuff though w/ no ill effects.

joel, posting that pic was stupid. please delete it.

Gee, thanks for that picture, while I'm reading this thread at work. That's the only time I will be grateful for having seen that picture before so I knew what it was seeing the top half inch of it.

Use your head, dude. Delete it.

Knuck, sorry you got reamed on the headset but at least you've got a nice headset for your nice frame - no point in cheaping out now :D. I want to see build pictures! Not, of course, that I'm going to click on this thread anywhere but at home until I know that picture is gone...

"Take a chill pill!" Who has said that before? Hmmm... Let me think!... ... Oh yeah! It was that guy Grimm complaining about the BMW welds some weeks ago. Funny how he has dissapeared completely and then Hitman (who only has 29 posts) suddenly pops up and says the exact same thing. What a coincidence eh?...

I've heard that you need to have a degree in constructional ironworks/be an ironwork fitter? And no I really don't want to ship it to NYC to have it done... :stupid:

hey. PM xy9ine. He pressed out the pivot of his TMX and said it wasnt hard to do. I sent my frame to BMW cause i was chicken to try and press out the pivot for fear of damaging the aluminum sleeve and it took almost 3 months to get it back. I didnt care cause it was being done "over the winter" when i was not riding. They did a killer job and included all new nuts, bolts, washers, stickers ETC.

What color(s) are ya thinkin ??

joel, did you get any more 05 pics from bmw? What is the claimed frame weight?

Is 11.8lbs the true weight of the 04? Go-ride said it was more like 14. What does brooklyn weight its bikes with?

No, i did not get anymore pics. Doc said they were shipping the first few 05 RLs to customers before they left for Interbike. So theoretically some new ones floating around. i have no idea of the weight though. He did comment that the 05's weighed a couple pounds more than the 04. As soon as mine arrives, i'll break it all down and give the scoop!

joel

Damn, it sure has been slow for pics to come forth from Interbike. I saw some thumbnails of the Arrow tubeless DHX rim and the UST Arrow Tire. That is gonna be sick! I cant wait to lace those up!

Well, that was an interesting few pages of reading! Good god!

Anyhow, i wan't some honest opinions on the downtube of the 05 racelink, i'm not saying this on the basis i have an older one that's different, and i can't accept the newer one is better, obviously its better, but this is purely on looks. Forget what bikes you own, or what your getting, just an honest opinion on looks.

Now, personally, i think it looks a little out of place (Not a lot) just a wee smidgen, I loved the really thin clean tubing of the older RL's, it seems to have spoilt it all a tad..

No comments on strength, i know it's stronger, otherwise it wouldn't be there. Just looks.

Peace.

LOOKS!

From Pinkbike:

"D-Rock star put on the big boy pants and turned the trail to dust with the Brooklyn Machine Works Racelink. Easy to pedal, strong and stable control through anything that came across. It's one of those bikes that you sit back and make sure everyone is out of view on the trail before you open it up. Point this machine where you want to go and hand on while the Racelink crumbles rock gardens and make drops a blur. Racelink is for going big and turning rowdy lines into a stroll in the park."

Off topic, i need some opinions here. Ok i have 2 options, get a used FQ frame kit w/ king headset, thompson seat post, and 3" DOC bars for $2900 USD and i know the bike wasn't ridden more than 3 months w/ no abuse at all. Or get a racelink KIT that was raced numerous times at plattekill w/ some lil dents on the bottom of the BB area for $2000USD. Not to mention I am in love w/ the FQ but wondering will it be raceable w/ the big boys? So please help a brotha out!!! Thanks...

Get the FQ now cause that sounds like what you really want. Then save up and buy whatever you can afford to race DH with for 2005. There are so many killer deals for long-travel, complete bikes out there for like $1500-1800 usd. Then the following summer, '06, get you a RL to race DH on.

Becides, with a 6" SC, I'm sure the FQ will get you down the mountian. It's not like you CANT ride it dh style. I see plenty of peeps racing (trying to race) kona stinky's all the time and they, dont set the course on fire, but manage just fine.

whats up with people constantly trying to stir poop up in this thread?

Knucks, LBS's suck. They just simply do. And everyone who tells me i have to get to know them/find the right shop, all I have to say is BS. My LBS ordered me a shorter seatpost than I had planned because the mechanic "knew it would be too long for my frame". I asked her to ask the mechanic what frame I had and she never got back to me on it. I meeself used a FSA PIG headset on my mini and have been having good luck with it. Plus they're BIG BALLED.

Normal Chris King's rule. I'll never buy anything else.

the FQ is such an all round bike, and it has plenty of travel to race DH. And it can even have an advantage on the flatter courses. Buy the FQ, you'll be very happy with it I'm sure...

Hey. I'm thinking of trying a Hopey on the new bike. The Bmw shiftoid stem looks like it has enough clearence. I'm concerned about the king headset and the headtube of the bike. If i have a Hopey damper, will that dramatically reduce the amount of space that the headset is pressed in there ?

Anybody know where I can get a 29.8 seatpost. WTF? Nobody has one but down cycles and they don't do mail order I guess. WTF?
Hey, check and see if they have one of those adapter-sleeve things that will let you run a 27.2 or a 28.6 post in the 29.8 tubeset.

I am thinking about getting one of those SDG I-beam seats (if it is lighter) and using an adapter. That is if they make an adapter.

I got 2 thomsons from Cambria at that size. They usually keep one around and the sales person guessed it was a cromo hardtail from the post size. :) He was close enough. Check cambria out they 'usually' have that size in stock. I got 2 in for 2 lengths one for my XC abuse and one for general BMX style riding. If you're gonna have a lot of seat post sticking out, I plainly suggest getting a thomson elite. Always been the best.

Also if yer thinking about changing your seat height a lot, and i wish i thought of this before, you can get a telescoping post too. I personally had a harder time finding someone who had an adapter (shim) for 29.8 than the post itself in that size.
