Bridge to nowhere revisited

I shared the articles about abandoned highway structures on the San Gabriel River east fork with my traveling companion, and she wants to go see it.

This led me to start with where in hell's the San Gabriel River, which is of course in San Bernardino National Forest to the northwest of LA, which is to say Newark, NJ.

Some more poking around revealed that there are actually some MTB trails in the vicinity...

If we were to plan a few days to a week in the area, for those who are familiar with the riding I tend to fall into, what trails do you recommend?

depending on when you go up on top of hwy 2 (Angeles Crest hwy there is an old abandoned mine with tons of shafts to explore but it needs to be late spring / summer after the snow melt because its at 8000 feet. Mt Baldy trail might be worth riding. I have forgotten more trails in that area than I can still remember

when I lived in So Cal most of my riding was in the Santa Monica Mountains at Pt Mugu State Park

The San Gabriels are 3 times as tall and really cover a large area. Mt San Antonio/Baldy 10,069ft , Mount San Jacinto at 10,834 ft, and Mt San Gorgonio is 11503 ft there are tons of places to explore

Man Down should have some good Beta for you. I will PM you on FB with a friend of mine that is a hard core 60 yr old master woman Downhiller that lives down there. she also goes on long backcounty rides she can give you a really good run down of the riding
