Cleaning After a Muddy Ride

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I didn't see anywhere that was more appropriate. I am very new to mountain biking, and we just got done with an extremely muddy and messy ride. I rinsed everything down and wiped down everything the best that I could once I got home.

I am just check to see if there is any maintenance that should be done to a bike after a messy ride in the mud. Do I need to oil the chain or anything like that? One of my roommates who used to bike quite a bit when he was younger mentioned this, but I figured I would ask in general what all should be done to a bike.

there are a few things, they are optional though.

1. check the brakes if they need to be bled

2. lube chain

3. pick out anything that got caught in the derailluer

4. tighten everything if it feels loose

5. check tire pressure

6. wipe seals on forks and shocks

once a again its up too you if you want to keep the bike in tip top shape.

Thank you for breaking it down for me. I definitely want to keep it in tip top shape, and that is why I asked what should be done.

Everytime I wash or rinse I always relube the chain. Also be careful around fork seals when rinsing. If the fork seals are getting a little old and start to leak just a little you can get water inside of the fork or shock.
