I'm asking in here because all the right people are active in this forum.
I'm looking for something less like a tight, and more like a fitted pant for winter MTB riding on the occasions I don't want to get fully kitted up in my winter tights, something I would wear a chamois under.
Anybody have any suggestions? I think Craft has something similar in their Pro WS Thermal Tights, anybody else? Pearl? Etc?

Thanks!

Jimmie

I found their thermal tights:

So I'm looking at those. I think they have a decent EP program, no huge rush anyway, but it'd be nice to have them sooner than later...

do its
get some hot balm too. embrocation ain't just for pro roadies/cross geeks.
greyhound juice or sports balm are both good choices.
the greyhound juice is nice b/c it comes in a deodorant style tube so you can roll it on and not have to touch it at all.

I used that greyhound stuff for a race and later that night my knees were on fire and it kept waking me up. TIP: Don't touch your junk after application :p

thats why you put your shorts on BEFORE you apply the juice, and you buy their clean up stuff and rub your legs down afterwords so they dont burn at night.

I have both items - Craft thermal tights & rain pants. I would not suggest either. The thermal pants are too warm after 20 minutes of pedaling in dry weather, soak up the wet in rain & snow. The rain pants do not breath - if you're moving fast you'll become wet from the inside.

I bought the whole kit - one of everything craft made back in 2004 - its good stuff but for most of my winter riding I wear their bicycle messenger pants over bib tights.

Craft base layers are the best I have ever used. Period. :)

Just wear lycra knickers. I have a pair of Specialized Bib Knickers, which I wore on a very cold ride this Sunday. People laughed at me, after the ride. No said anything while they shivered on their bikes.

I just looked at those. Didn't care for the fit much but I've never been a fan of bulky lycra tights either. I wound up getting some Craft leg warmers which are awesome and plenty warm.

I've got some great Pearl winter tights, and some nice cold weather knickers too, just looking to add some stuff to the outfit choices...

I was that person last year, all bundled up, but normal-weight bibs. Man, the wind just passes right through them in the front. My poor business...

I've got some great Pearl winter tits

Well, there's something we didn't know about you.

Anyway, all I ever need for "winter" mtb riding out here is a pair of knee warmers or knickers to go with baggies. (Spent many years riding in Northeast winters and still laugh when people here say it's cold.) If I were you I'd go with knee warmers or full length leg warmers under baggies. For really cold days you can run an extra pair of lycra or wool shorts or knickers under your baggies, to go with the leg warmers. (A layer of lycra or wool and a pair of wind-proof baggies should be warm enough.) That's a pretty versatile set up - you can lose the leg warmers mid-ride if you're over-dressed.

Rapha makes some great wool shorts and knickers, and they also have a messenger knicker that is pretty cool (if you're ok with the "man-pri" look).

Got me there...

The ride I'll be doing out here most tends to be a be more open, less trees, etc, so there is a fair amount of wind. I just hate getting home and having the part of my leg above the sock and below the knicker/knee warmer bright f'ing red and cold.

I was gonna ask for pic but thought better of it.

Get full length leg warmers - same as knee warmers only longer.
