I have posted another thread for suggestions for next years event so in this thread we'd like to hear positive feedback...tell us what you liked, how good a time you had & about the course & hopefully this may prompt others that didn't make it out this year to come to the one next year. Cause the more people we can pull into the County the more money the local businesses & County will give to us which in turn goes to the racers & back to the land (trails maintenance & expansion). And plus it will give the BMCC Trail Crew & the event volunteers that warm & giggly feelin'!

Thanks again to everyone for making the race such a success!!!!!

Timing, timing, timing. The timing was perfecto. I love the little ankle bracelets. That was rad. Everything went off without a hitch.. Just awesome. I would love to see a three-race Dark Mountain series.

Yeah, the race was well organized, followed the schedule, and was fun. Give the size of the hill, the trail was a blast and floowed really well. Good job Matt and Ellen and the reast of the crew. Oh yeah the timing chips worked very well.

I was thinking the same thing since I was in the beginer men ( frist group down) .Wow we are on time. I had a blast. I finshed 2nd with a 1:39:50 to frist place 1:39:45  to lose by that much. oh well plus the $40 gift certificate to Paceline sure helped out.

Yep, big props to Matt and Ellen and everybody else who put on this event.
It was a blast, well ran, and those timing chips are flat out brilliant.
We need those things at all the races.
Thanks again. We need more events like these.

I think I can speak for most people when I say that the rock garden was definitely much harder than anticipated. Though not long, every rock was placed about perfectly to make it "interesting". I loved it. And it would be sooooo sweet to extend it to about where those 4 or 5 logs were that we had to jump over.

motomike out.

That rock garden was a total pinner. Come over the rock, make sure you are on line, let off the brakes, and peace out! Unfortunately less than seconds could be made up in there due to the slow exit after the second, 180 degree berm. The race was won in the long pedally section just prior to the rock garden and the exit section.

I debated for about a minute on which bike to use... my 30lb hardtail or my 43 lb DH bike. Since I was having so much fun in the rock garden I didn't care about the possiblityt of slipping a few spots due to poor pedaling. GO ROCK GARDENS! However, I was suprized with my placing with such a big bike and flats. Again it was a great race. We need more like it.

Man about one a year is all I think I can survive...my hats off to Juan, I couldn't imagine coordinating 5-6 races...you da'man! That said I had a blast, wore out but still a blast & that's all contributed to the support, atmosphere & good vibes all the riders provided. You guys (& gals) helped make everything run so smoothly...it was awesome, one of the best times I've had racing...THANK YOU!

Hopefully we'll break even after its all said & done. The XC turn out wasn't as much as anticapated. We had 99 riders for it & were betting on 140. The DH turn out was better than anticapated...our ideal turn out was 70 & we ended up with 72!!! Thanks again to everyone for the support!!! The odds are pretty good we'll be able to swing another one next year...just need to find additional sponsors that give green-backs instead of prizes. :D

Oh yeah Mike; I'll catch you next time even if I have to tie a bungee cord to your seat post! We're planning to ride it again this coming weekend so if you can make it up let me know.

I know I've posted "thank you" a bit in these threads but I just can't thank all of you racers enough. You really made this thing work & the riding was awesome...my fellow BMCC'rs had never really seen full-blown DH'rs & I think they were amazed & really enjoyed seeing how extreme/fast DH'rs can be.

Umm, yeah...Just found my ankle chip...Knew I didn't bring it back, but couldn't figure out what I did with it...Was in my armor velcro :(

So Matt, I can either send it directly to the timing dude (big thanx to him!) or to you...Which ever...Or, if you already had to shell out some cash for it, lemme know how much I owe you guys and I'll scratch you a check...

Again, apologies for being such a dunderhaid...
(This is Ed from Raleigh by the way)

Now on to more pressing business - Kirsty Alley sized PROPS to you guys!! Loved the venue and everything went off smoothly...Well done, sir!

Hope to do it again next year...

Just reply here or PM me on what ya want to do about the chip...

Thx!

 Actually for the dh race, 73 people registered, not 72. One kid in the junior class broke his bike in the first run and couldnt race the second round. I was the second to last person to race my second round, and the times people said their were 73 people but why only 72 had raced the second round.

Hope that was clear enough...

How about a safer way than sitting on the rim of a pickup bed to get racers up the hill next year? I'd hate for someone to fall off backwards, head first into the road. Otherwise, great logistics on saturday. Haromtnbiker's Dad.

Sometimes there just isn't any other way. I walked or rode up the hill everytime expect for my two race runs. Most times on hills like that, with rough shuttle roads, they don't even offer a shuttle truck. So this was a definate plus for those that wanted to use it.

We'll have to think about this one...not many options but we'll see what we can do. Thanks for the input!

Hmm...just thought of this. We should've gotten a shirt for registering.
Mike hit the nail on the head. The timing system was pretty expensive but definitely worth it. We're going to try to get another date for next year other than a holiday in order to try to get more riders...especially with the cross country crowd since their race was right on Father's Day. If we can swing it we'll have something to give with registration next year be it shirts or whatever. This could possibly be a motive to pre-register as well. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Yea Craig, how did he do that.(change your password)
I thaught the shuttling was fine, and it was the best timed and best oganized race I have been to.
Every race should have the timing chips instead of the radios and stop watches...

so....I heard through a very big grapevine that Lizards Lane is pretty much gone from all of the flooding. Is this true? And what is the new trail at the top like?

tell; that person to cease and desist from talking out of their ass...they repaired the entrance so you can get in...the part at the top is expert only until we can clear a go around for the one portion (can hopefully clear it out bright and early on Saturday morning). It's 90% singletrack, has tons "o" flow, and the last part is GNAR and adds 75 yards to Donovans dungeon.... :thumb:

That's great news Butch! Thanks for getting Sugar in shape for the summer lift season...Btw, what's that run nowadays? Under normal circumstances, I'd be heading up to Banner Elk this weekend, but alas, I am instead going to be in Seattle on Saturday and then onto Fromme and Whistler the rest of the week
So jazzed about the trip! But if there is going to be an official 'work day' out at Sugar, lemme know or post accordingly...

The new section was awesome. I got to ride it last year just before the lifts shut down. The trail was green and the faster lines hadn't developed yet, so the entrance to the rock drop section was rooty and a challenging angle. FUN! The run out got worse as we did more runs. I see a ton of people pilling up in there. The rest of the trail down to the old trail is fast and ripping. However the brake dragging skid off the road is sketchy. I hope there is a rework in store for that section. Over all that new trail makes that that course a cool challenge to be raced. :thumb:
