CRAP- yeah, with the older sx, they were the same as the enduro. I was thinking 06-08 sx trails, sorry!
For your bike, and a cheap fix that I know works well, I would just put bottom out bumpers in that shock so you get the clearance of the original 8.5x2.5 5th element.
... as far as bumpers go, check your hardware store. I used .125" thick plastic washers with a 1.25 OD and an ID that fit perfectly over the shaft of my dhx (I think .5"). Then I sliced a slot into them to get them to slide over the shaft. By using this material, I knew that there wouldn't be much compression.

edit: the high/steep shuttle should work, but then you would have the high steep setting since your shock eye to eye is the same as stock, just the stroke on yours is longer.
