Thanks guys, I am going to a specialist today to figure out if its going to need surgery or not. Its either stage 2 or 3 (out of 3- 3 most likely resulting in surgery because the ligaments are all completely torn). But yeah, bad times.

UPDATE: It is a stage 3 ligament tear on my ankle. It is probably going to result in surgery. I am waiting to get into a specialist to see what happens next. =\

HOLY F!! I'm getting flashbacks.

I remember doing that to my ankle on a log ride on Jan 1, 04. My result was a fracture dislocation.

Yikes.

this should be titled "A damn good reason not to ride on logs 10 feet above the ground." Call me a pu$$y if you want but I think this is a good reason you wouldn't ever find me on something like that.

Oh man that sucks. I hate seeing pics of body parts that are no longer attached the right way.

Sorry if you don't like this question, but do you think it would have helped if you were wearing high-tops or an ankle brace? Or was it just one of those things that would have happened anyway? There has been some recent discussion about ankle support here and I'm curious if you have suggestions that might help others. BTW, those are some pretty fly Pumas...hope you heal up fast and fully.

i dont ride.

from the way josh desribed the accident. i think it would have happened with or without an ankle brace.

i had something similar happen to me snowboarding a few years ago. right off the lift i caught an edge and put my foot down in a soft spot, toe dug right in and i fell twisting my foot around backwards. i had minor tears in my ligaments but becaue of the high top boarding boots i was wearing my ankle didnt give out all the way and my knee had to twist in some interesting ways as i fell. i ended up tearing ligaments in my ankle and knee and got a small tear in the membrane around my knee as well. fun times... that was in '00 and my knee and ankle are still stiff on cold days.

hope they can put your ankle back together josh.

sucks to hear about your injury man. my tendons had to get some major repair work done after i broke both forearm bones and one of my wrist bones with a major dislocation of the hand, wrist and thumb.

my advice to you is request muscle realxers, they helped me more than any pain medicine because they kept the muscles from spasming.

get well soon.

DUDE, you did better then me, I broke two vertabre in my back (T-5 and 6) on a log ride up there. Which did you do your ankle in on? I'm curious if its the same log.

Since the incident, I have decided log rides are dumb, and I stay away from them.

Sounds like Karma to me.

get well. then ride.
Karma has nothing to do with man-made laws. Karma is the universal law. The trails there are only illegal because of bureaucracy. It's not really faux pas to ride there.

Sorry to hear man, i did my ankle last summer as well and was off my bike for about 6 months as well. Try to stay in good condition although it will be tough, i started to do alot of upper boddy workouts and once i could get around on crutches i started going to the pool which helped alot in keeping up my endurance.
