Dugast cross tires?

Has anyone ridden any of the Dugast cross tires? I've heard it's night and day compared to other tires. I did my first A race (and a ton of those guys run these tires) and I did well, but they were definitely hooking up better in the slick off camber corners.

They're freaking sweet tires, seem to be the tire of choice for the pro when you have a choice. Seems like it's either those or Challenge tires are the only things you see on the Euros bikes. I have only done a quick ride on them, but they felt like butter.

I saw that Katie Compton runs the Challenge tires....do you have any time on them? I'm going to be building a full on race bike next year, and I'm trying to plan out what parts I'm going to be putting on it.

the dugast tires are sweet, as are the FMBs. both are VERY difficult to get your hands on b/c they are only produced in limited numbers.
Challenge tires are super nice as well. I've spent this season on them, as i'm riding for a team sponsored by them. Being sponsored by them means i'm supposed to be biased and say all sorts of great things but i'd rather be honest. i don't have a single thing bad to say about their tires.
i've been running the 32 grifos most of the season, i have a set of the file threads in 32's as well. i like both tires and its nice to have different sets for different conditions. i wish i had the file threads in 34s mainly on days were the course is frozen and i can run even lower pressures and get better traction.
compton is running them b/c they pay the bills son.
if you are operating on a budget the challenge are the way to go. they are half of the cost of what the dugast/fmb tires are.
the 32s are ideal for a lot of conditions, but if it gets a little rougher 34s are slick stuff too.

the maxxis mino tires are great all around tires for clinchers. i haven't ridden their new raze tires but the minos were awesome.

The Raze are on my list to try too.
I'm using them now and have been pretty good so far. Good all around choice for clincher tires. They roll fast and grip good enough. My only complaint is that they seem a little loose on the rims. I seem to get a few more flats than usual with them, the bead has popped off while inflating them (not seated right by me, but this doesn't happen with other tires...) and popped off once when I was riding.

I have a friend that rides for Stan's No Tubes and he is riding a prototype setup that uses tubeless and clincher tires. Its a cool concept, and the tubeless system works really well but he has a problem finding wire bead clincher tires that are worth a damn (at least in comparison to tires like Dugast). The tubeless setup should be out this year, and he is badgering Kenda (another of his sponsors) to get on the ball and come out with a competitive cross tire. It'll be interesting to see.

the tubeless stuff for cx to me doesn't make much sense. solely b/c of the bead and casing situations.
cross tires are supposed to be supple, the way a tubeless tire has to be constructed to support itself, well it doesn't lend itself that type of construction method.
also with conversion situations you run into the problem like above with bead seating problems. i would say lack of thread patterns but that isn't the case.
for racing though, the stuff like the dugast/fmb/challenge are great. they are expensive but there is a reason why guys like sven buy their entire years worth of tires from dugast, its worth it.

just a dugast mold for the thread. wonder how well they nailed the compound.
Tread was co-developed with Dugast, not just a mold knockoff.
It's not on the same level as a Dugast, the tire is about $40 or so, much, much less than the Dugast, so there isn't as much trickery in the rubber/compounds/etc.
It's a good tire for those who like the tread, but run clinchers.

I'm getting ready to order my Dugast tires for this season :) I'm excited! I'm having trouble finding the exact tires I want, I was going to go with a set of 30mm Rhino for the mud and a set of 34mm Flying Doctors for the faster, dry courses.
