email question in relation to CNAME records and email addresses...

So I recently got a smugmug account, and have the domain I've signed up for through 1and1 pointing to it with a CNAME record. It said it would kill the email addresses associated with it when I set it up, so I set up a new one after doing the CNAME. However, the new account can only send messages, not receive them. This is indeed an issue with the CNAME change, as another domain on the same webspace has no issues receiving email (actually the same name, but ends in .net). Changing the address to a forward dump only doesn't fix it.

Is there a setting I need to change somewhere to fix this?

I'm far from an expert but seems you would need to setup an MX record pointing to wherever you check your mail. I register domains at Godaddy, host elsewhere and setup an MX record to point to an existing gmail account.
