Its more than likely Buffalo NY is named after a wild daffodil. A Bay Flower. They grew in the alluvial valleys of western NY and Southern Ontario. Buffalo native to plain states became extinct in the colonial times weirdly. Grouse, wild turkey and wild pheasant were in abundance. So, our propensity for fowl.

So it makes some sense then, I didn't know there were different names until I tried to get capsicum at Subway in Scotland.
After about five attempts another staffer yells "Aussies call it something weird."

Peppers are hot, Capsicums are not, the rest of the world should change, not us.

Well, it's a little backwards, because what's hot in a chile pepper is actually capsaicin.
