full specs of your bike would help.

edit, he has single ply tires and xc tubes. which is around 900X2+200x2=2200g
dh tires and dh tubes- 1250x2+500x2=3500g the difference is 1.3kg/2.8lbs.. nearly 3lbs.

dont sweat it, i had a vpfree which weights the same as a socom and it was around 42-44lbs depending on what tubes i used. now i have supreme dh with is slightly heavier but some lighter parts here and there its at 39.6lbs:)

don't know all your #'s but

Fork - ~1lb (world cup)
Chainguide - ~.7lbs (e.13 LG1)
DH tires - ~2lb (his are ~3.5lbs, yours are probably more like 5.7lbs)
Tubes -
Seatpost / Seat -
Hub weight? ~1/4lb

Monkey DH carbon bars aren't that light over alum. bars
etc.

The parts add up quickly.

Hubs, cranks, brakes, stem, fork, chainguide, etc. all add up. Then factor in tires/tubes, and that's a lot of weight.

Your tires are about the heaviest they can possibly be...you really don't need a 'freeride' tube inside an Intense 4-ply tire! And the tires themselves...wow...that's a lot of beef. Understand, I run a micchie 2.8, so I know where you're coming from, but I also know why my front wheel is so heavy. Plus I run them UST tubeless.

Hussefelt cranks are also boat anchors. The BB might be, as well...dunno what you have in there.

Thanks guys.

Oh mikeyboy, 4-Ply. Makes sense now. Do you really need em'?

I'm thinking of going sub 16kg (~35.3). With some new tires (Maxxis 2.35 Single ply), Ti spring, Custom lighter backplate and Odyssey Twisted Plastic pedals.

I know some sorta fast sport and expert riders on fat tires. I also know semi-pro and very competitive experts on pretty skinny tires.

There's a time where the size helps, but there comes a point when your skill means you need to reduce your rolling resistance (or something; I really don't know what) in order to go faster. Me, I run pretty fat tires on DH bikes, because I'm a huge hack. I just know guys who mop the floor with me on 2.2-2.3s.
