The annual Warren Miller film tour kicked off this week...

It's always so much fun to go to these film release events to meet some of the skiiers/boarders and get free stuff.

p.s. And no I definitely dont work for them so dont write this off as spam.

any of you turds have any interest in planning a winter monkeyfest? same place, different mode of transportation? Might be fun to organize a thing where people do stuff, like ski, snowshoe, drink, and spontaneous combust, only with snow instead of grass and dirt.

MBC and I have been talking about going up to KT for a winter weekend. That would be a blast. And now that the KT season pass covers the entire year, I feel a certain obligation to have to use it in the winter.

I could probably get the wife to come, since there would be no bikes, and we could take a snowshoe journey and go skiing another day. Plus, there's the beer.

We were actually talking about that during Fall Monkeyfest. Both Terri and I ski, and Cromby1 does both ski and board. Him and I were talking about trying to do a long weekend of skiing somewhere this winter so a Winter Monkeyfest would be sweet. If the weekend and price was right then I think all of us would be up for it.

A winter Monkeyfest would be a great idea.

Burke is my favorite place to snowboard. There is never a lift line and their grooming is perfect for laying down deep trenches (and remains so till the afternoon due to uncrowded slopes). Plus, they are much cheaper than the big guys. The new high speed lift to the top is going to be a nice addition but hopefully it doesn't mean more people.

The xc sking is very good as well. There are a lot of trails in the Magill Fields area that aren't open to bikes.

Oh, and yes I have my tickets for Warren Miller. We get a sh*t ton of deals for mountains: Crystal, Whistler, Sun Peaks, Big White... They used to include Apex and the ladies and I would go on the "Warren Miller Tour" every winter. We'd sleep in the back of the wagon like sardines and drive at night to get to the next free shred day. It was always epic!

Boo, you guys have real mountains out there? I just thought you had large, snow covered hills... You should all come rally on some west side slopes!!

Most of us would love to head out west for a ski trip but that would cost more than whats in the budget.

It might sound crazy but have skied all over the northeast USA, Canada, Germany, Austria, and Italy but have still not skied in the western US.

Yur missing out. I have also skied in resorts around the world and at the end of the day Squallywood is still hands down my favorite.

P.S. I refuse to watch ski porn until after my first day of the season. I get all antsy in my pantsys. Skiing the step and deep is the only thing that I love more than DHing.

I think I may start tuning my planks tonight.

*sigh* must spread rep. Agree with all... except I don't know anything about Squallywood

My fav. mountain is Alpental... a little gem with miiiiiles of BC... too crowded in the lift lines, yes, worth it though once you trek out a ways.

Just checked tickets to VT.... I don't think that's in my budget either. How about THIS fantastic idea:

East Coast vs. West Coast Snow MonkeyFest? We can all meet up on our respective sides of the country, and then swap photos and videos on some awesome thread. I suppose we could even have Central Monkies to make it fair....

Um, speaking of -SS- does that mean we have housing in CO? I've never rode there before. My bro-in-law lives in some little town out there too... PAR-TAY!

Question: How many of the mountains in Warren Miller's Film are East Coast? How many are West Coast?

:D
Booooourns! It's just because they haven't discovered all the beautiful eastern hard pack (aka... ice) that we enjoy.

One of my good friends moved out west and lives a few hours away from Salt Lake City. He has been trying to get me to visit for both biking and skiing for a while now.

You should totally come out to shred! No joke, it's pretty awesome out here. When it's good out here, it's epic! I haven't skiied much outside of WA, BC and Oregon, but Utah IS supposed to rule. I'm stoked for my Boise trip this winter... I imagine similar epic-ness!

Having lived in Park City for most of my adult life and now being stuck in MD, this thread makes me sad.

I was just about to ask her if she had any "real" snow out there. :D
Of course we have "real" snow out here! And when it's not snow, it's slush... or as we call it... ski conditioning. They say if you can ski every run on Alpental, you can ski anywhere in the world. :D

Hey - just like the East Coast!

So what should be said is the PNW is just like the East Coast - only now with bigger mountains! :D
:disgust:you can't compare East Coast to West Coast. We've got Whistler, Baker, Big White, Apex, Silver Star, Crystal, Hood, Bachelor, and much much more. East Coast has ice covered hills!

:yes:West Coast FTW:yes:

Hey now, we have some good resorts in western NY and VT like Whiteface, Stowe, Killington, Sugarbush, and Mad River Glen. We've also got Tremblant just north of the boarder in QUE.

There is only one way to settle this battle of East Coast Snowmonkeys vs West Coast Snowmonkeys... we need to have a SKI OFF! That's right, I've challenged all of you to a ski off :D
