Fort William Results Hot Off The Press!

Hot off the press (ie. in the last few minutes) are womens results from the first WC of the season here in Scotland:
Chausson 4.53.20
Jonnier 4.55.32
Gaskel 4.57.86
Gross 4.59.11
Quinn 4.59.55

Apparently AC was looking amazing into the finish, crossing up all the doubles.

Rachel Atherton (brother of Dan and Gee) put in an amazing performance, not sure of her final result but she took 3rd in qualifying, considering she is only 16 so has 2 more years as a junior thats not bad! Worlds this year will be interesting with her maybe going head to head with Mick Hannahs kid sister

Couldnt see any other info about 4x results but it was as follows:

Women
1 Chausson
2 Llanes
3 Jonnier
4 Miller (crashed 1st turn)

Men
1. Tschugg
2. Hill
3. Saladini
4.Baloochi

Mens DH finals are now underway, the BBC covering it this year and apparently its all being beamed live to a big screen in the finish arena but wont be brodcast until later tonight, though the coverage will be "live".

Mate, do you know when and on which channel the WC will be broadcasted?
Its on BBC 2 Scotland tonight, you will need Sky or cable to be able to pick it up outside Scotland. DH is tonight at 11:20 I think, XC and 4X around the same time on Monday night.

We have all the new mens DH results up on Transcend as well now. Thanks to Mike King for getting back to us so quickly!

Minaar absolutely Slayed. Honda must be very happy. They enter their first worldcup with GM, and he takes it. Anyone have any shots of the Honda from BB or Bill? It looks fundamentally the same as the bike the Japaneese kid rode at Ste Anne last year, right?

You guys have no idea how exciting it got on some of the UK forums (well Acadian might), at one point we had 90 guys all online, looking at the one topic on descent-world with various people (myself included) all in phone and text contact with guys up on the course......it got so exciting at one point I thought I might wet myself :D

I was in the car and my phone was blowing up with results left and right. I came home to catch it all unfolding online, but alas I was a moment too late. damn.

Greg is coming to West Virginia, not the world cup. So his competition will be quite slim. THe only guy that "could" beat him in W va. would be Kirkaldie-who has won before there. But I do not think Hill is going, Rennie cant as he will probably not be able to get back in the USA all year (my guess, not fact...passport issues), Peaty isnt coming, no frenchies....finally a chance for the americans to get top 10. :p

Bryn will be there too, and I think that Graves will, but maybe not. Thise 2 are both rippers, Bryn has been riding really well lately. He is getting into a groove on this East Cost terrain. The bikes are really hooking up, and I'd bet he has a good race in WV.

seems strange to think thats only Minnaar's 2nd world cup DH win (last one in Austria 2001)

I'm loving it that this Honda bike seems to be the biz, ok, the rider ain't too bad either, ;)

I'm stoked for him......

When Minnaar first signed with Honda I was kindda worried he was going to spend too much time “testing” the new bike instead of concentrating on racing, thus not doing as well….well he proved me wrong! Good to see him on the podium! :thumb: Quite a talented rider..

almost proves that if you're a good rider, you can almost win on ANY bike!

I dont know what the chances of any of you :monkey:s getting hold of the TV coverage are but if you can I would do so, the DH was broadcast "as live" last night on BBC2 and the 4X and XC will be tonight.

The coverage was excellent, far better than most TV coverage I have seen of the sport so far, it really brought across the speed and excitement very well and the atmosphere in the finish arena looked amazing and I think to see that many people at a DH event will have surprised some viewers. The top section had the most awesome helicopter chase cam across the fast first couple of minutes before heading into the woods where they had a boom cam swooping over the riders as they dropped out the woods over the road crossing. There was then loads of footage of the jumpy bottom section before launching big over the tissot jump and dropping into the arena. They also had some great coverage from in the pits, including a peak at the honda bike with a run through of the bike with Greg Minnaar then an interview with Martin Whiteley all about Hondas involvement in the sport. They also had a few words with all the main contenders (anne-caro, Jonnier, Gracia, Rennie etc.). All of them came across really well, sometimes DHers on TV can be a bit cringeworthy, what we find funny others look at as being just a bit weird but all of them were ultimate pros and came across great.

I wish the BBC would do more DH coverage, they have done the last 2 World Champs and covered both of them very well, they really seem to know what they are doing.

If you can get hold of a copy, do it!

So let me get this straight. Peat, Gracia, Rennie, Kovarik, Hill....all gonna skip this one?

So that leaves Minnaar, Kirkcaldie, Graves, Atkinson, Voreis, & Hannah? So are there going to be actual sponsored pro teams there?

I'm assuming Giant will have Adams and Rando there.

I'm having a tough time thinking of who is going to challenge for top 10 status. Used to you had to run through your head who would hit where in the top 20. I guess it's just a changing of the guard.

David K is the only US guy that strikes me as a top 10 threat besides Voreis.

Team Honda Turner will be there. I think our boy Andrew Neethling has a chance to do very well in both WV and Vermont. I think he qualified 4th last year in VT and had problems on his final run. He's due for a good result....:) I wouldn't be suprised at all to see Sven the mad african break in to the top 10 either. Either that or he'll kill himself trying.... :(

I also hear Minnaar won't be doing many WC's this year and do more of the NORBA's...is this true?

I have heard the same thing! I heard he wants to repeat his title for the overall NCS but to me it just doesent make sense. He is currently leading the world cup overall and he isnt even going to attend the next race? That sounds obsurd to me. Although if the qualifier at big bear really counted as the actual results then I guess he is leading the NCS as well? Hes ready for a GREAT season i think.
But as dave mentioned dont count out Bryn Atkinson just yet for West Virginia, i think hes primed up for a huge result there!

...but neither is a US rider...US based, sure...but not "Team USA". I mean honestly, how many US born riders are capable of standing on a DH podium anymore??? :(
