From Velonews, Vino may or may not be on the list of Lance Armstrong replacements.

Vinokourov talking to Discovery Channel?
French newspaper Le Parisien/Aujourd'hui is reporting that T-Mobile's Alexandre Vinokourov is on Discovery Channel's short list as a replacement for Lance Armstrong. Both the team and the rider have gone directly in to the "neither confirm nor deny" mode.

Team Manager Johan Bruyneel said, "Every great rider at the end of his contract interests us." Armstrong said, "Ask Johan." Armstrong's manager Bill Stapleton said, "There exists a list of riders, but we can't tell you if Vino is on it or not."

Vinokourov is equally noncommittal: "It's hard to say. It's true that I'm at the end of my contract with T-Mobile but for the moment, I'm not committed. Come what may, I'm going to wait to see the results of the Tour to make a decision."

What about Yaroslav? Don't forget he has been annointed as the next big Tour rider....

It seems to be the case that ex T-Mobile riders seem to "come into their own" after leaving the team. I think there was an article on Velonews.com recently about that too, kinda interesting.
Vino is pretty damn strong though, he'd make a nice replacement (if that's possible), but would have nowhere near the recognition of Lance...
Good, short nickname though!

Watchin' you. Writing it all down.
Vino just doesn't seem like a Johan / Discovery kinda rider to me. But then again they brought in most riders to work in support of Lance and that is not going to be the case of the next round of riders.

As for Popovych, it might be another year beyond next year before he really comes into his own. He still is young and Johan is not one to rush a rider's development. I wouldn't be surprised to see Savoldelli focus on the tour next year. He was more than a little bit of surprise to Discovery in his fitness and demeanor. With Popovych being the top man at the Giro for Discovery.

Don't discount Danielson. He is a very strong climber and a better than average time trial rider and is still young. His skills really do point to a very good GC rider. Some folks seem to not like the fact that he is polite and thanks people for helping him out. But then again those are the same folks that knock Lance for being mean. Being polite is not a character flaw nor is it a sign of weakness. Its a sign that his momma brought him up right. It will be interesting to see what type of Vuelta he has. While not being the sole leader there he will certainly be one of two that will be.

Let's have Mr. Danielson finish a grand tour before we crown him as Lance's follow up act...Popo is better and younger and proven.

There's a line between polite and stalker...Hincapie does polite very nicely. Danielson just ****ing creeps me out.
