i've been using 28-13, its a little soft on dirt lines, but since i ride street and park as well, i find its a good overall combo to use.
Using a 25 front does not give enough power for 26" wheels unless you can use a driver hub,
the 25-12 combo only gives 52 gear inch's while the 28-13 gives 56. (Gear inch's is front sprocket size/cog size x wheel size)
industry standard for optimal gearing is 55, but things such as one's strength, weight, and tire choices also affect this. but 55 is a good guideline to start at.
I ran 28, 27, and 26/12 on 26" wheels, and preferred 28.
It's steep, but I hate spinning out....
25/11 was my favorite.

It might help you pick out a combo that gives you an ideal chainstay length! Avoid the crappy half-link!
