not to be a negative nancy, but these things are pretty cheap...why not buy a dedicated HT for XC and one for DJ? They're kind of mutually exclusive...one is sharp fast light and nimble, the other is slack, heavy, durable, and forgiving...you're either going to have a crappy DJ build that you don't want to ditch in a wreck, or a slow XC bike that can't deal with the climbs.

Unless you're just one of those stompers that doesn't care as long as it has wheels...ie w00dy with his 32lb intense spider.
I've already got a 19 pound XC race hardtail. I'm not actually going to do that with this hypothetical bike, I was just agreeing that it would be awesome in its versatility. No, it wouldn't be a great XC bike, but I think it would be doable.

Edit: and I also don't want a dedicated DJ bike. This is more my idea of an awesome trail bike, that I could also jump once in a while if I felt like it.

did he go on a tangent about his political views?
Nah, but we did explain to me why everyone should have a super light XC hardtail, and told me a story about hanging out at his friend's parent's place and riding around on their lawn.

Calling that guy is always fun.

Bizzump. Just spent a while hanging out with Mickey while the fvcking lift at Whiteface was broken, and while their upcoming bike is sweet, it's not quite what I want. Bueller?

The custom option is being explored.

I've been riding an Iron Horse hardtail quite a bit recently. LOVE that bike! It's my buddy's that he got new off of duncan but it's a good build. Very light and easy to manual...and i SUCK at doing that!!

Dear Mickey,

Make me a semi-slacked out ~5" travel bike that a downhiller can ride xc on.

chromag stylus?

Large is 17.5" ST, 23.5 TTT, 12.5" bb and 67* HT (measured on a 150mm fork).
Not spot-on, but close to what you are looking for.
I've got an Iron Horse Yakuza Bakuto from a few years back that is a "large" and 17" in the ST and about 23.7 TTT (if I remember right) The thing handled brilliantly with a fork set at about 120mm (had a Pike on it). Ugly as sin, tough as nails. I've still got it built up as my ghetto ride.

What about something like a .243 racing frame or something along those lines?
I loved my .243, wish I would not have sold it. But I needed junk and I was broke... ;)

Not the best I had her set up but it's the only pic I could find of her.

I would fully recommend the Ragley Blue Pig I have been loving mine,

Frame Size 16in Top Tube (effective) 23in Head Angle(SAGGED!) 67.5deg Seat Angle 73deg(excellent for pedaling) Chainstay 16.73in BB Drop 0.8in BB Height 12.4in with 2.5′s

I think JonKranked may have rode mine, if not he can at least tell you i am a competent rider with discerning taste and good understanding of what makes a good bike. I wouldn't steer you wrong.

I run an 18" as i am 6'3".

did i mention it is 297 on Chain Reaction
and holy fvck the Al version with 1.5" ht is only $219, Thats a Smoking Deal.

there are some significant change for '11, but for the price the 2010 is hard if not impossible to beat.

PJ I only ever gave that bike a parking lot test. The only time you ever used that bike on a ride with me was the time I got the flat in the middle of the thunderstorm and there was a hole in my spare tube. Did seem like a fun bike though.

Also, that alu frame with the 1.5" headtube and a cane creek angleset would make for quite a versatile bike.

thats a good thought. considering the Static head angle is 65.6 some may definetely like quicker handling for slower speed xc. I feel the slack front end compliments my riding style, i have rode DH on the ragley at Highland and it freaking rallied. but yeah verstile HA adjustment is a big plus on the Al version.

HAB keep in mind those Geo numbers are sagged. There are unsagged, and reach and stack numbers here at the bottom of the page.
Seems the designer Brant Richards of one-one and now nukeproof has a bit of a novel approach, but its a little hard to wrap your head around at first for sure. I am not sure i fully subscribe to it as its tough to make comparisions but to each his own.

I've got a 1st generation Dobermann frame with a 23" TT hanging around. It's not in good shape, but it's tough as nails. Probably a bit shorter in the seat tube than you want...

Hey HAB - I know the frame is super heavy - but would an Azonic Steelhead work? I've got an XL one that is in tip top shape. It is one of the first generation ones.

Lemme know.

Think I've got a line on a Blue Pig from kidwithbike, but maybe if that doesn't work out.
