We are have a name now!

We are a new club that has formed in the lower Hudson Valley (Putnam and Southern Dutchess) in order to promote mountain biking and maintain trails in Hudson Highlands State Park (including Mount Beacon) and Fahnestock State Park (over 25,000 acres combined). We hope to expand to include other parks in the future, but those two parks are our focus right now.

Currently there are limited out and back trails that are legal in Fahnestock and currently Hudson Highlands is off limits. We aim to change both of those.

We are working on designing two loops in Fahnestock that utilize the existing legal trails and existing trails that are marked hiking only (not the AT). Once designed the proposals will be submitted to NYS Parks for review. Fahnestock is an amazing place with tons of old mines, buildings and strange things to find...not to mention beautiful woods!

For Hudson Highlands we are working on a proposal to gain legal access to the trails. We are starting small with some key access points and some single track up near the top. Hudson Highlands park includes South Beacon Mountain from the top of which you can see 5 states! On a clear day you can see the Empire State Building clear as day and you can see almost all the way to Albany!!! The park is also accessible from Metro North!

Our next meeting will be in early January (Date TBD) and will be held at Beacon Cycles at 178 Main Street in Beacon, NY. I am in the process of setting up a website (a forum anyways) so stay tuned for the URL when it is finished.

Hope to see some of you at the next meeting!
