Oh hell no. Free climbing at 1700 ft? If you fall, you'll be in the air for ~13 seconds before you hit the ground. No thank you.
I calculate 10.28 sec of free fall from an initial velocity of zero. Hard to calculate wind resistance coefficient without knowing the climbers size and clothing. but then again it's late and my math could be off.

Still though, I'd do it if I had a chute. I've base jumped 500ft. 1700ft should be a blast.

I just used google to tell me that. Either way, you are in the air long enough to think about a lot of things knowing that you are going to hit the ground with a thud.
