Yep.^did you use the little nylon washer that goes between the headset and stem/spacers?
have fun with that....those things are really garbageIm going to Cane Creek on all my bikes from now on.
So what headset then besides a CK?have fun with that....those things are really garbage

sunline fsa race face......had bad luck with cane creek personally, and from working at a bike shop, i saw many come back on ROAD bikes....you know that isn't good.....also woodman's are nice....honestly the chris king you have probably needs to the interface between the bearing and the cup greased, and needs to have the interface between the cup and the frame greased along with making sure that where the lower race slides onto the fork is greased and have all surfaces faced and free of burrs......if you had a good shop do that,i'd bet my left arm it would be fine from there out......i've had lots of kings and never had a problem with themSo what headset then besides a CK?
I thought the CC Double X or Xc were good headsets.
The only other headset Ive had was a FSA Pig Pro. I had no problems with it.
well, i blew up my 1.5" double xc on my turner DHR so my new bike has a used king that i got for $45HAHAHAHA
CC S8 > CK
Period.
I have S8s on the Burner and RFX and Double XC on the DHR. Haven't had a single problem with any of them, AND I didn't have to pawn off my grandfather's vintage Playboy collection to pay for them.
My Orbit extreme pro started creaking after about 10 months. I checked out the bearings, and they were completely shot. Got some new cartridge bearings from FSA, and it stopped creaking for a couple weeks, now its creaking again...CC doubleX = mediocre. uses slightly different dimensions than other 1.5 headtubes; Intense website advises against using 1.5 Cane Creek. know a couple of locals who've had CC mid-priced headsets crap out prematurely.
seems that the general consensus for long-travel SC forks this year (1.125 OR 1.5) was the FSA orbit extreme pro. 10 year guarantee. i have the 1.125 and the 1.5 and both are stellar. set and forget. no creaking. custom color: black.
patent dispute between FSA and CC supposedly means that FSA will need to change their design. so i may buy another extreme pro just in case....

I Felt the same way until I bought one 5 years ago & I'm still using it.the thing is, 1.5 will just warrant a bigger price boost on the king stuff. who wants to pay 150 bones for a headset? some people will say that they can be relied on, etc, and i respect that, but are they really worth what you could get 3 FSA headsets for? i'm not criticizing other aspects of king because i respect their manufacturing methods as well as the reliability of their products, but i think they need to get a little more realistic on pricing. a cnc'd piece of metal with 2 cartidge bearings should not cost $150.
It was done correctly by a good shop.sunline fsa race face......had bad luck with cane creek personally, and from working at a bike shop, i saw many come back on ROAD bikes....you know that isn't good.....also woodman's are nice....honestly the chris king you have probably needs to the interface between the bearing and the cup greased, and needs to have the interface between the cup and the frame greased along with making sure that where the lower race slides onto the fork is greased and have all surfaces faced and free of burrs......if you had a good shop do that,i'd bet my left arm it would be fine from there out......i've had lots of kings and never had a problem with them
I absolutely agree. the high end cane creek stuff has been flawless for me. The solos is a bad-ass headset.HAHAHAHA

really? your left arm? I'll take that bet.....honestly the chris king you have probably needs to the interface between the bearing and the cup greased, and needs to have the interface between the cup and the frame greased along with making sure that where the lower race slides onto the fork is greased and have all surfaces faced and free of burrs......if you had a good shop do that,i'd bet my left arm it would be fine from there out......i've had lots of kings and never had a problem with them
Had many Kings and a handfull of FSAs. FSAs are fine. Prefer them actually as they make a very light deep-cup and the race is easypeasy to install/remove.Now I can get rid of my FSA piece of crap.
It was done correctly by a good shop.
I even took it apart a couple times and regreased it and it still creaked.
Thats what I thought, but two CKs in the same year gives them a bad rep in my eyes.that's bizarre man.....i don't even know what to tell you, but i suspect something isn't right.....
My last FSA cracked into 2 pieces.....(lower) bearing part seperated from the sleeve....they warrantied it though.......Had many Kings and a handfull of FSAs. FSAs are fine. Prefer them actually as they make a very light deep-cup and the race is easypeasy to install/remove.
