Work party next week
http://evergreenmtb.org/recreation/calendar.php?event_id=8764

The core-group under the direction of Rick Heinz are organizing to form a sub-group whose mission it will be to care for the newly legitimized trails in Black Diamond. Our task currently the Summit Ridge trails and soon adding many more miles of mt. bike trail that fall in the King County Natural Zone area.

The King County Natural Zone addition means more trail will be legitimized and set aside for future generations to enjoy. King County want's our help to discourage any more "unapproved" building in the area, and will rely upon mt. bikers to keep the trails in good riding shape.

Next weeks work party we're continuing the effort to dial the trails. Want to help out above and beyond contact me, or come to the work party, or keep on looking for future updates on how you can get in where you fit in. We'll be working on creating a causeway and culvert through a wet hillside on Tribulation Trail.

Thanks to Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, Real Life Church, King County Parks, Summit Ridge Freeride Builders, and the community of Maple Valley and Black Diamond.

16 came out and helped out for Tribulation Trail, plus there was a good turnout of mt. biker volunteers digging at the Freeride Park. Tribulation Trail is really getting dialed in, we're putting in a ton of drainage work so people can ride the trail year round. Plus we're throwing in some Intermediate features as we go, it's a fun trail, check it out.
At the upper gate take the trail to the right, the trail splits stay left and do the loop clockwise.
Cheers.

Just curious, which "newly legitimized" trails are you talking about and for future reference, what is the King County Natural Zone and what are the boundaries. Are you saying that you intend to take over or care take trails (in the Natural Zone) that other people have already built and you want the people who built the trails to stop building? Or are you saying Rick / Real Life-Church is asking people not to build on their property? Correct me if I'm wrong, wouldn't be the first time, but it sounds like Evergreen is officially expanding their role to include care-taker / custodial services; good match for your skills. Whatever the case, good to know you're involved with the project.

Ones currently on the Real Life Church Property, ones that King County admit to the inventory that fall on their property (which they haven't done yet). This is separate from Henry's Ridge.
i've downloaded the map.
The current trails that exist are to be inventoried, and yes King County wants mt. bikers to start playing by the rules now.
Rick/Real Life Church have asked people who have permission to build on their property. Building with permission is key.
Evergreen is not expanding a role to include care-taker/custodial services. Evergreen has and will continue providing endorsement and support of a sub-group that provides a simple stewardship role within the borders of where they have permission to do so.

We had another successful work party out at the Summit Ridge XC trails. 16 people showed up and we really got some fantastic work done.

There's been alot of focus on Tribulation Trail, starting with a big work party replacing all the degrading bridges. This work party we were set to tackle the biggest drainage issues.

First main area we focused on was a hillside that is completely saturated. Replacing an 8 foot section of bridge and 15 feet of small lumber across the trail serving as a bandaid, with a culvert.

The volunteers really stepped above and beyond, after getting rid of the clutter, there was a ton of swampy slop to clear out, harvest alot of rock and mineral, on top of digging ditches, and building the culvert.

The next project was going to be another culvert, but after a quick re-assessment we switched gears and went with a small gapped channel instead.

Using the rock retention to raise the tread up and focus the seasonal run-off through the channel. The gap is rollable on one side, and a bit wider on the lower end for people who want to skip the gap for a technical challenge.

Volunteers really kicked butt, taking care of dozens of odds and ends on the way out. Puddle extermination was on the agenda, but of course no work party can help but stop and put in a fun new technical addition. We were on a roll!

Since we had an extra run of pipe for culvert a handful of us decided to stay on for extra credit patching up one more trouble spot.

Was a pleasure working with the Sawyer Trails Volunteer Group. With support from Evergreen and sponsorship from Center Cycle.

The goal of the group is to simply tend to the trails. Right now with as much rain as we've had, and how much the trails get used, you can see the difference. We hope to gain more steam heading forward, putting "sustainable" practices, with a vision for maintaining as much of the rugged spirit of these old gray trails. Now they are legitimized and not going away it's time to put effort into dialing them in for the long haul, and we've been lucky with so many great folk that have helped us out so far.
