So I have a 40, and I got to thinking about how much I like direct mount stems. I know that a few companies make them: Burgtec, Persist, Risse, Function Bikes in OR, Go-Ride and some guy in Hong Kong.
What I want to know is this:
What's the lightest setup out there?
I have the stock crown with a 120g 50mm traditional stem mounted up (Control Tech 3AM - weighed it myself recently), and I figure that's pretty light for a combo. What I'd like is to know how much weight I could save by switching to direct mount (if any).
Some of these crowns come with their own stems, while others equip the rider to be able to use a Boxxer integrated stem. I figure that the E.13 Ali Stem is the lightest, but if anyone has any input on that, I'd love to hear it. The point is getting the crown/stem combo to be as light as possible. I'm not the kind of rider that is concerned about the strength of a crown on a DH fork, so concerns over which one is stronger are completely irrelevant for this comparison.
Also, is there significant weight to be lost by getting the Risse or Function lower crown/steerer setup? Because getting the top and bottom setup would be a good deal, and then I could get blue
