I am planning my trips for next year to Moab and Whistler. I have never ridden either place and I am looking for info on what time of year to go for each and any recommended place to stay and groups to check out for shuttles etc. Advice please?

Whistler is nice in Sept. Just get there before the park closes. unless you aren't interested in the park...

For Moab, check out Coyote Shuttles. They can give you good advice and shuttle rides. Personally I prefer Moab in September when the leaves are changing. Usually it's a little cooler, but hasn't snowed yet, and the days are still fairly long. Some of the best trails to ride start up around 8-10,000' in the La Sals. Check out www.utahmountainbiking.com and skidmap.com for trail maps and descriptions. The "Whole Enchilada" is possibly the best shuttle all-mountain type trail in the world. Start at ~9,000, climb to 11,000 descend to 4,000 over 30 miles with very little pedaling along the way.
