I've owned two on two different frames/bikes - Shova LT and Covert V.2. No problems what-so-ever. Plush, no leaks, and all adjustments seem to work. The Floodgate on my current model is a little sporadic in its effectiveness, but I never use it, so it's not an issue. I'm looking forward to trying the Monarch Plus when it is available. Or a Push Industries version.
I may have gotten a bad one, but mine is unrideable. It may also be related to the cooler weather. It seemed fine at first, and then it would blow thru ALL of the travel on the smallest hit, no matter how much air pressure you put into it.
I think these things are great based on the sole reason that your (competent) local bike shop can TOTALLY (yes rebound piston/damping included) rebuild them. I've got several people on them with no problems on them and think they work great.
I have had two Monarch 4.2's in the past and am currently on the RT3. I think they are a great trail shock and prefer them over the RP23. I like the sag settings on the piston, easy to dial in and the customer service has always been great for me. I say do it.
I like mine a lot too... I find the floodgate switch to be more effective than the propedal on the dhx 5's (air and coil) that I used prior to this. Also doesn't wallow in it's travel as bad as the dhx air did.
I would reccomend it, especially since they are cheap, and rebuildable.
I run a 4.2 on my intense ss. I've been riding it all season for dh and trail riding, and I'm very pleased. The floodgate works well and even when it's on the bike tracks well though rough terrain. I have had to rebuild the air can and relube once but it was pretty easy.
Can anyone comment on durability and on ease of maintenance?
I'm looking to replace the DHX 5 Air on my 2005 Enduro and I'm thinking of ordering the RT3 straight from Push. I've gotten used to servicing the air can of the Fox (sounds kinky...) and I'm pretty impressed with how durable it is. Would I be downgrading on those aspects by switching out?
