I want to move to BC!!!
Hi all,

I am thinking of getting a sony mp3 cd player for my long walks and xc/road rides. DNE800 model with lcd remote and 140hrs of playback.

I was wondering if anyone else is using portable audio while he/she rides/walks

Yep,

Nike / Phillips 256MB.

Can't complain. 4 hours of music is good enough for any ride I'm going on.

Ive got a dell protable Jukebox or something like that with 15 gigs. I love it for riding. Its a litter bigger than most 128 or 256mb players, but then again it has a bajillion times the memory, and a 13 hour batery.

unless you don't mind the risk, i'd stay away from usign a hard-drive based mp3 player for activities where it could be jarred. you risk trashing the machine that way, and it would suck to kill a $300 machine in that manner.

something that is flash based (like the SD cards) works well. you don't have nearly the capacity, but with a 256MB card you still will have room for at least 45 songs or so, depending on length and bit rate.

Plus most 256 run off a single AAA batt for 10 hours of playtime.

Nikes got a new 512 flash memory based playa too and it's only 50 bucks more than the 256 version.

i have a 3" mp3 cd player. It's a bit bulky compared to tiny RAM based mp3 players, but i can burn mini-cds to my liking and get beyond 256mb.

yeah, i think all the iPods are HDD-based. i bought a Rio Cali (here we go...) for my wife to use for exercise and it's light and does the job. totally bombproof, and it can take 512MB SD cards too.

I was looking at
Philips-Nike PSA250 512mb Solid state
Creative Nuvo2 Xtrainer 512mb solid state

Any opinions on those? Is it easy to drag and drop files into them?

I have the older Nike 256 version. It's great for biking. Especially the armband thing. I've clipped turns to close and smacked it on a few trees and it kept playing.

Thanks guys,

actually this Rio Cali looks fantastic, the ability to add memory through a memory card looks fantastic.

So basically everyone says steer clear off HDD or CD based solutions.... moving parts and action dont mix well

So my options

Creative Nuvo Xtrainer
Nike PSA250
Rio Cali 256mb +1GB MMC card.
