New road frame?

So I'm kinda jonesing a new road frame. I really have no right to want one, as I have a pretty damn new TCR Carbon I just put together, but I've been on the same frame for about 5 years now. First the full alloy TCR, then the TCR Carbon, then a TCR Hybrid (alloy/carbon), then another TCR Carbon, so I guess I'm just looking for something new.
Kinda want something cool/off the beaten path, i.e. not a Trek or something. I did kinda dig the new 6/13 from Cannondale, but there are kind of a lot of other cool bikes out there too. I'm not 100% sure I'm even gonna get a new rig, as I probably can't afford anything too cool, even after selling the TCR.
Not really set on any one material, carbon, alloy, ti, steel, I'm open-minded about that stuff.
Any thoughts/cool ideas from my fellow roadmonkies?

Thanks!

Watchin' you. Writing it all down.
6/13 doesn't ride all that different than CAAD X frame. If anything I thought the all aluminum bike was a little more compliant than the 6/13.

I love my Roubaix.

Since you didn't mention price.....

A custom Seven?

i'll chime in on drb's last comment. You've done the top of the line Major manufactures carbon. What’s next, custom. That’s the only future I see for you.
You could go TI like sever or moots or IF but maybe you could looking to Hans Schneider a local builder http://www.henryjames.com/bfolder/schneid.html
Don Walker also makes nice stuff http://www.donwalkercycles.com/
Calfee is making so fine frames http://www.calfeedesign.com/
Crompton made the most bad ass cx frame I’ve ever seen http://www.crumptoncycles.com/
And theres always vanilla (very nice year wait) and Richard scahs (2 year wait) (sp brain no workie.)
Anyhoo there ya go get busy.

James,

I say go with something like a Ridley or even something like a Merckx, Colnago, or even an Orbea? I'm been thinking very hard of getting a Ridley Damocles or Super Damocles. I've also been hot for an Orbea Orca lately too.

I do have somewhat of a price limit though, as much as I'd like that not to be true.
A Moots would be totally cool, and I've never had a ti bike, it'd build up nice and light too.
I just never really liked the look of the Calfees, I appreciate the work and light weight, but never really liked their looks. And Vanillas are gorgeous, but a little too pretty for me to ride.
Tom, those Ridleys are pretty damn cool, as are the Orbeas, but I guess neither really totally piques my interest. I kinda want something non-compact, just for the looks, they look more like "classic" road bikes, though I really like the fit of my Giants.
Still thinking I guess. I was admiring the BMC SLT01 in the "Swiss" paintjob, but damn is it spendy! Maybe if I could score a super deal on it or something, but daaaayymmn! Don't think I'm man enough to rock the Phonak colors though. That's the front-runner right now, but we'll see...

woohoo check this out
$1,500
PM here or email to donbooker2000@yahoo.com
http://www.teamsmack.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1178

For the mountainbiker that says, "Yeah, I need to get a road bike. It might make me faster, more fit. I don't know, something good. Yeah, just a good entry-level road bike, because I'm really a mountainbiker."

Spend entry level dollars on a Flytanium Wunderbike.

Polished finish (looks like chrome)
Campagnolo 10 speed drivetrain (Chorus/Daytona mix)
Campagnolo Chorus bottom bracket
Campagnolo Chorus headset
ITM 120mm stem (additional 90mm Cannodale stem included)
ITM bars
New Campagnolo Zonda wheelset and cassette (zero miles)
New Hutchinson Carbon Comp tires (zero miles)
New Alpha Q EX all carbon fork
New Alpha carbon post
Specialize Body Geometry seat

Less than 2,600 miles on it. It would cost ~$3,300 new.

See the specs at http://www.legendbicycles.com select Dreamspeed from the drop down menu and click around.

It's up at Mad Duck if you want to take it for a spin and get fitted for it.

Alas, it's too small. I'd need a 60cm in that frame, too bad too, it's a nice looking rig. I have all the parts though, most of them are parts I really like, well, not in love with, but still, I like 'em.
The search continues. I'm checking into the 6/13, pricing and all that. People seem to dig on the ride, plus it's not a compact bike, so more "classical" look to it, in my opinion. We'll see...

Actually, new idea: I'm looking at the Cannondale R5000 complete bike vs. the Six/13. The cost of the complete R5000 with mostly Dura Ace, and compact carbon TruVativ cranks would cost less than the Six/13 R2000 Compact which has Campy Centaur. Centaur is below what I was looking to get, not that I wanted a complete bike, but the fully alloy R5000 looks pretty damn sweet. And I really like the ride of the CAAD8 frame too, I've taken a couple of them for a spin.
So, looking into that, plus I like the charcoal/gray color a lot...
We'll see...

James, sit tight. Kent Erickson is firing up his new shop (he's back in the Sore Saddle building). He's taking orders now and will only be doing Ti customs his first year back under the ByK.E. flag. Oh, in case you don't know the name, Kent was the owner/designer of the original Moots before some dude from Disney bought him out. I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and he will consider doing steel as well. He's got a couple of projects (building tools, alignment tables, side jobs) before he starts building but from the time frame he gave me, it should be around mid July. He was also talking about making a soft-tail roadie, like the Moots Psyclo but for rough roads like we have around here.

Yeah, Kent is da bomb, his stuff rules.
Probably a bit more than I was looking to spend though, but we'll see. It'd be dope to support him when he's getting up and going, I've always liked their stuff.

I didn't exactly get that vibe when they fixed my Jester, but I guess it could have been Spectrum. I just didn't like that every call ended with, "it'll be next week".

Me too! I would love to have a Mercian, I think. The research I have done would seem they are underrated. They use nice ornamental lugs, color options, and the frames are available in a variety of flavours of Reynolds steel. Check the exchange rates, but they seem to be around the high $700 mark and go up from there. I estimate 2 US dollars for every English pound. That way, I am never surprised. Just a thought. Most depends on budget. IMO, I would not spend my money on a Seven. IF, now there is something worth thinking about.

Out of curiosity, what happened to your Jester?

I bought it from a cat in Kentucky and UPS broke the drive side chainstay. I sent it to Dean to weld and powder coat. It cost $425 for the fix and the paint, but took nearly 4 months. It's my single speed now.

Hey man, my bike shop has some beautiful Merlin (titanium) bikes for sale. We just actually put them on EBAY because we don't have that high end road crowd at my shop. We mostly sell hybrids and kids bikes.

55cm Merlin Extralight (this is a killer deal) with full Durace groupo for $4400.00 opening bid. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=98084&item=7166589257&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Yeah, thanks, but #1 a little more than I wanted to spend, and #2, I'm industry, so I'm not paying anywhere near retail anyway, but good luck selling 'em!
