So here's my 2017 alloy Transition Scout GX.

But I broke the frame so they sent me a 2021 carbon frame... Well RS shock didn't fit new frame so I replaced it with a Float Factory X... But I exploded it twice so now it's got a new Bomber CR. Pike fork was perfect for this bike... But exploded it twice. So I got a nice 36 from a fellow monkey. It's quite stiffer than the Pike. The flex in the RF ARC was more noticeable. Good thing I killed all bearings and exploded the rear hub. Upgraded to some Reserve plastic hoops. With an extra 10mm of travel front and back, I can go much faster, which highlighted the limits of the stock Guide brakes, so it's now sporting a nice set of Dominion A4. Running this frame at 30% sag means you pedal strike a lot in rock country, but being short crank curious, went with some 165 Turbine...

Really a great bike, ready to ride out of the box.

A scout w +10mm front and rear is exactly the bike I would like... how does that work? just need a longer stroke shock and fork? or are links and offset bushings involved?

This generation of Scout is 140 to 150mm compatible. You just need to remove a spacer in the shock. And when going to 150mm in the back it feels more balanced with 160mm in the front.

I think most of the current gen Transitions can be run with 2.5mm longer stroke & 10mm longer fork.

Seems like it. So they might give it the mullet treatment for the next iteration like they did for the Patrol.
That would be pretty cool actually. 140/150mm 4-bar mullet with the option to run at 150/160. Wonder if they'll ever put a snackbox in the frames.

They learned their lesson pretty fast on the first Repeater. The second version (SRAM Powertrain) did away with that, and none of their normal bikes since have had that BS.
Isn't the new Smuggler headset routed?

Nope. The cable ports on the head tube I think are a bit further forward than some of the other bikes, that's it.

New build with some new parts.

PXL_20240427_222627964~2.jpg

Spent the last two weeks with the nose to the grindstone to get the frame finished in time for the Pemberton Enduro. The bikes first test ride was 30km and 1800m of blind racing Pemby steep and loose.

PXL_20240426_005948654~2.jpg

The rear end is a faux bar that ditches two pivots and has the seatstay do all the flexing to pivot.

PXL_20240426_005941143~2.jpg

The rear end was build with it's neutral point at 40% travel, so parts of the flex is negative travel and I need to pull open the rear end to get the shock in. The bike felt great on it's first ride.

Geo is close to previous frame I built, tightened up. Reach is shorter and the ha steeper than previous. 470 reach, 643 stack, 63.5 ha, 77.3 sa, 450cs, 1280wb.

First ride on the Ohlins stuff. Need to fiddle with these to get them dialed in, been a long time since I ran a coil.

I used a flow drill and roll tap to make the mounts for clips I 3d printed for the cable management. A huge upgrade from electrical tape cable management on my last frame. Paint was some old rattle can at 2am in the dark way too cold and mostly there just to hide my ugly brazing.

@shirk007 I like that simple hits the marks, steel and allows you ease of redesign and change relatively quickly...

Be curious to hear your thoughts, direction and changes in future
This was originally going to be a flex Horst layout but I was under too much of a time crunch to machine the flex pivots I had envisioned. The faux bar layout allowed me to have the thin seatstays do all the flexing. I need to knock out a couple frames for my kids and spouse and possibly a DH frame before I can return to make a Horst rear end for this one. I have done a complex single pivot, well it wasn't really too complex just that my diy machines link plates were a pain in the ass to take on and off with a ton of washers and spacers.

Along with the Horst update on the next one I will also switch the front link pivot from bearings to bushings. I have several sets of the conical bushings Rocky used and I think they will be a good application for the front. Then the only real bearings on the suspension will be the main pivot.

That's cool and I like the fact you went after a deflective setup using flex...like the fact it's semi easy to change and not locking you down to a new build everytime for placement...

I'm all for this and love the direction

Chunk of the tax return sent off to Germany in exchange for a fancy toilet paper holder.
I shit you not, this is how it came out of the box. :D

New sealed damper
New air spring that you can set from 150-180mm in 1mm increments without taking the fork apart (or even off the bike)

The crown is super beef cake, can't wait to try it out.

Wow, can't wait to read some real life experience.
The toilet paper roll is a good idea, simple yet very effective protection.

It just has an "oh shit" button?
Who does it actually try and contact?

Like the small size and no subscription required.
It sends directly to the NOAA SARSAT (and most civilized countries have this) and that goes to the regional rescue coordination center (government), rather than 3rd parties and commercial sat networks. It has 5watts output, which is about 3 times as much as In Reach. It has a terminal 121.5 beacon to help S&R, which is something that tends to cause them quite a bit of difficulty (terminal searches). It's what airplanes use. If you want to be found, this is the way. It doesn't do text messaging. I have one, it's about the size of a multi-tool.

If it can't text, how do I order a pizza or burrito delivery to the trailhead??

You have to use a messaging pigeon or a bear. Since you are in Canada, wait until a beaver dams the stream, then build a boat out of a maple tree, float down river.
