Juaquin Miller is basically in my backyard - too short, shuttling isn't quite legal. Pacifica is cool. Santa cruz is ok for light FR , Dead Campers run is a taste of DH. What's Auburn about ? Thanxghettogt76 said:Auburn, juaquin miller, and pacifica are the main places that come to my mind. Maybe santa cruz too. I haven't been there yet but I plan on it.
Don't really have the time to build trails. I am sure there are plenty hidden trails but work, family and responsibilities limits my exploration time. I find it kind of strange - you ask people who have been riding for years "where to ride ?" and you get " well you used to be able to ride there, maybe over there..."Rye_Bread said:the norcal DH scene is so dope, Im going to colorado this fall and I am gonna miss it so much, build some of your own trails, show people, have them show you their's. There's so much and its soo good. We have everything you need, from rough technical DH to gnarly slalom tracks that will challenge you guaranteed. It seems like DJs keep popping up everywhere too.
amydalayna said:people genuinely don't want to share their trails. but i understand why. not only does it beat the poo out of the trails, but here you stand the chance of a trail getting shut down.
and when people say, "just build your own trails", that isn't applicable in all areas. if you build a trail here, the forest service will shut it down REALLY fast.
I am just as guilty but if you have time to ride, you have time to build trails, pure and simple. You are not the only one with time committments.keen said:Don't really have the time to build trails. Most hidden trails exist because someone sacrificed a lot of ride time to build them. Most know their hard work could be ripped apart any time, and increased use is a sure way to get that to happen. I don't get out to build trails that often, but I also don't expect people to share their hard work with me just because I ask.
No, they don't. Besides Auburn, thats really the only place I can think of.keen said:I really don't want to ride quote " hidden trails " i'd much rather ride well known , easily accesible trails - do they exist ?
or just come back to Sports LTD again and ask that guy where they are. He would LOVE to help you out.sanjuro said:Could someone post their hidden illegal trails?
Sure, here you go.sanjuro said:Could someone post their hidden illegal trails?

I rarely ride uphills, and I ride probably 5 days a weekbikenweed said:
If you can´t ride up a hill, NorCal is not your place.
i disagree. there are fun shuttle runs here. and some are half shuttles. i live in south lake tahoe and 1 of the most well known trails, mr. toad's, is a 1/2 shuttle. Still a bunch of climbing involved, but you can cut out the big road climb.matt12 said:No, they don't. Besides Auburn, thats really the only place I can think of.
I know, but the guy wants completely legit trails with no work involved to get to them. Thats just not gonna happen here.amydalayna said:i disagree. there are fun shuttle runs here. and some are half shuttles. i live in south lake tahoe and 1 of the most well known trails, mr. toad's, is a 1/2 shuttle. Great, more driving...Rye_Bread said:I rarely ride uphills, and I ride probably 5 days a week

why would someone post the location of those sorta trails on this thread?keen said:So you would consider Mr. Toads DH ? I consider it a trail ride, though it does have one nasty section. I want somewhere to take the rig and body armor.

i still think it depends on where you are. building something in the tahoe basin, unless it is on your own land is asking for big trouble. each year another fun (legal) mtn bike trail is getting shut down around here. if people just start building willy nilly, then i could see even more legal trails in this area being closed to mtn biking.matt12 said:Like Ripper said, if you have time to ride, you have time to build.

You will get nowhere asking people to reveal their sweet DH trails to you if you say that you don't want to build, can't, don't have time, etc.
Thats just not how it works. For the builders (assume the trail isn't legit) you are just one more person to risk f-ing it up for them and getting it found with no potential return since you don't want to build.
Do you have time to ride your bike? It sounds like you must sooner or later if you talk about riding Northstar. If you have those times to ride, you simply switch a few to building. You do have time to build. Everyone is busy.keen said:Like I said before I am not looking for hidden or illegal trails. If you put blood, sweat and tears into a trail keep it , its yours. Just looking for commom well known DH trails - maybe they don't exist.
QUOTE- Like Ripper said, if you have time to ride, you have time to build.
Time to build ??? Job, responsibility, family etc. I'll pull my XC rig out then... The more I look into the Norcal DH scene the more it reminds me of the extinction of dinasaurs.
Exactly. You sacrifice riding so you have more to ride. If you're not willing to do that, don't expect the people who do to make it easy for you.matt12 said:Do you have time to ride your bike? I don't think there are (m)any completely legit DH trails that exist.

Auburn has some pretty cool dirt jumps. They are long enough for mountain bikers and big enough to have fun but nothing intimidating or huge. Pretty fun. I like the dirt there, it doesnt really hurt.morethanjake543 said:Depends what trails you ride.
Last summer, when it was dry, I wore armour simply because it kept poison oak off of me and the biiiig skidburns off of me whenever I slide out.
If you want to ride in the OHV park, I'd reccomend wearing armour. It isn't that rocky or anything (except rocky and murder), but when things go wrong you'll still get ripped up. Tunnel trail is only going to eat you up if you fall. It's somewhat rocky.
Coolside, on the other hand, is smooooothe. There is a drop or two, but they're small enough to not count.
I've never actually scoped out the DJs and drops around that area, so I couldn't give you any input there.
