Must have been a white guy. Unlike the crotch bomber who of course is part of the organized plot against america because he said he was.........and is dark.

Place your bets, check any and all that apply

1. devout christian

2. Known by neighbors to be 'against big government'

3. owns books by beck, hannity, coulter et al

4. Member of the minutemen and/or other freedom loving group keeping white christian males safe

5. Keeps journal/memoir concerning settin this here country back on the right track

6. Goes rogue on occasion

Please note: if one or more of the above qualifications are met, said suspect cannot by definition be a terrorist. And I trust a creepy family values politician who fvcks people that aren't his wife to assure me of this.

not that I disagree with your broader point, but the gunman was black.

As well, not disagreeing with your big picture, but dead is dead and when people die, does it really matter what label is put on the killer? Somebody's family member is just as dead. Terror, not terror, war on terror...whatever

Yeah just came back to this thread to post that actually :D

Yeah it kind of does within the context I was trying to set up.

Dude flips out and lights his crotch on fire: terrorist

Dude flips out and shoots people on a military base: terrorist on fox news, dude flipping out most everywhere else

Dude flips out and shoots up a federal building because he gets denied benefits: not a terrorist

Dude flips out and kills an abortion doctor: terrorist on huffington post, person run a muck from core values on fox news.

I agree with you, that they're all shltty situations. My point was that some come with the contingency that you should be afeared for your childrens because it's all a larger plot to get you........while others.....not so much. And that mostly, that determination comes from whether or not some groups can fit it into a larger agenda. When you get right down to it, they're either all terrorizing society, or they aren't, regardless of who they know. Which is it? Well it depends on what you wish to accomplish. Personally I'm more scared of the abortion doctor killers because I know there are a hell of a lot more of them close to me than any other supposed terrorist organization.

You dig?

Obviously I made some big assumptions long before I knew more facts. I was counting on this being ANOTHER disgruntled freedom lover killing his countrymen (which there has certainly been no shortage of). I just jumped on Ensign's immediate proclamation that this wasn't a 'terrorist act'. Well it might as fcking well have been. You're right......what's the difference? It's still a nutjob with a firearm. But ensign felt it necessary to put the even into an immediate category.

If "overwhelming anger against the United States government" does not make one a terrorist, then real terrorists must cross the line into the anger equivalent of going full retard.

So tell me, who is it that doesn't see Timothy McVeigh as a terrorist...?

And why are so many predominantly white American groups accusing their police and/or the federal government of improperly labeling/investigating them as terrorists? (Some of which labels are in fact quite unjustified, mind you, and reminiscent of 1950s paranoia...) This spans the gamut from PETA and socialist types to your hardcore militia freaks...

When hasn't the government considered ELF, etc. to be terrorists?

Oh, that's right, it's all a racist plot against "brown people." Please. Is it the US government's fault that the worldwide conspiracy to implement an all-powerful Islamic state is not run predominantly by whites??

(Not saying that said conspiracy isn't being used as a tool of fear and manipulation by US politicians, either, so lay off accusing me of fearmongering by simple mention of the fact...but it exists...and its proponents who try and manage to blow up buildings and planes from time to time are most often of duskier hues...)

The point, my dear Woo, is that plenty of white people are, or are considered, terrorists, despite the popular-yet-smug "brown people" rhetoric that Silver has cast adrift in this forum like a fatty turd on oily water, and which bobs to the surface anytime there's a mention of injustice or wrong.

We have a black president now, it's all been solved.

And my point sugerlumps, was that you and I can use that term all day long and know it fits the honkeys just as well. But then there are the retards who NEVER use the term on whitey, and then get all defensive when the Secretary of Homeland Security puts out a memo addressing them appropriately. I know you know what I mean. And I know exactly what you mean........but because of the above reasons, silver does often kind of have a point.

Actually, my point is applied to foreign policy.

Domestically, you could head down south and take a quick poll of a few hundred honkies...ask them if they think the Black Panthers were a terrorist group, and then ask them if they think the Klan was a terrorist group. Any bets on the results?
