It's me again the bike noob with a possible dumb question. I ride a D-back response I bought at dicks. I hear a metal on metal crunching through all my gears now, I might have inadvertently cross chained. I'm not sure what's going on here, it only does it when I ride, not when I put it upside down to see if I can spot something...:help:

Under power or coasting or both? There's really only a couple things that move. Check the bottom bracket, cassette/rear hub and derailleurs (more likely the rear).

With the bottom bracket, how do I know what kind I have without taking it apart? so I can know what it is supposed to look like... Thanks

Most places will service stuff even if you didn't buy there. Obviously, it costs money, but if you don't know how to take cranks apart, it might be your best bet right now. Otherwise, search on youtube for a tutorial on cranks. It's not rocket science.
