So I'm building a commuter/grocery store bike. And I'd like to remove the QR's, so my wheels don't disappear. Any good (cheap) idea on how to go about this?
You can usually get a bolt on axle to replace the QR, if that isn't appealing there are some locking QR's and those Control tech QR's that use a allen wrench.
I know a guy who put hose clamps (those metal straps that you tighten with a screwdriver) around his QRs and fork leg and chainstay, pinching the QR lever in there against the frame. You could obviously get them off if you had a screwdriver to undo the hose clamp, but if you have an allen wrench you can take off the Control Tech ones anyway.
You could also replace your axle with a longer, solid one, and run track or BMX axle nuts instead of a QR. That would be good too, but it's removable (steal-able) with a 15mm wrench, and it's a pain to do the conversion - you gotta be able to find a long enough axle, and swap the cones and locknuts over.
