I harvested plenty of hungarian peppers in my veggie garden this year, and my goulash has been outstanding. I've heard about Cafe Polonia but never made it there.Can you get peppers in Mass? Better yet just go to Cafe Polonia on Dorchester Ave. Off the hook Goulash in the Old Nieghborhood...

2nd picture - are those langos?
No they call them Latkes.... But I think you're talking about the bread with Lard and bacon? They have that and serve it as a appetizer.
Latkes are jewish but potato pancakes are pretty much omnipresent in Europe under different names. Langos is hungarian fried dough, veeeery tasty especially with lotsa garlic.
That was the thing about Columbia Rd. We had Jews, Blacks, Poles, Irish, Jamaicans, Serbs, Romanians. I think you get it... It kind all blends together. All the Bodegas after Boston street used to be Restaurants and Bars. Taverns and such. It was beautiful. New market was named after all the fruit stands that lined Mass Ave...

I really like Budapest. Me and my buddy found the only guy selling beef in that market. He pulls out this big slab and asks us how thick to cut the steaks. We told him inch and a half. We took those rib eyes back to the hostel and cooked/ate then in front of everyone. I've never before or since been looked upon with such jealousy. Then we glued American coins all over the hostel.

It's better than it looks, this was the place to go at 2am after the bar closed it would be packed full of drunk people getting garbage plates hookers in back parking lot, fights, shootings, homeless people bumming money ya never knew what you were going to get into
In Portland it would be this place back in my late 20's
The mushroom omlet is teh awesome.
Pretty sure you can almost count on all that stuff....
There are quite a few 24hr carts now for late night drunken eats. I had a gyro at about 3:00am last time I was downtown way too late.

Crazy food content here, crazy overweight complaints in today's GTM. I like where this place is going.
