Can anybody confirm that KMC X-10 chains are compatable with Shimano 10 speed mountain bike drivetrain/Dyna-sys. I know that 10-speed mountain and 10 speed road are different.
I've been extremely impressed with the quality and strength of KMC X9 sl chains, and extremely un-impressed with Shimano chains in the fast. I'm currently recovering from a pretty major knee injury. If I were to crash or smash my knee off my shifter because of POS chain snapping then I'd likely fly to Japan and choke every shimano employee with that chain. I live on the east coast and the climate here is brutal on chains...strength/durability and longevity are as important or more important then lightning fast gear changes.
I just want to know if the the KMC is the road standard or mountain standard for 10 speed.
dyna-sys is its own ballgame. granted, as long as your chainring doesn't have any shift ramps you should be fine there; but dyna-sys cassettes must be used with the corresponding chains. if you want to use kmc, just use a 10spd sram cassette.
even with a Dyna-sys cassette????? I have always preferred Shimano cassettes. Its a tough call if I need to use a Sram cassette in order to use the KMC chain.
My trail bike has a single ring up front so there's no worries with front shifting.

There's nothing magical about one cassette as compared to another. Shift ramp technology is old hat. If the spacing is right, all is well.
That said, KMC makes a ton of chains for Shimano and Sram. They manufacture 95% or some ridiculous majority of the bicycle chains sold today. It's mostly low-end stuff, but they know what they are doing.
To answer your question yes you can use our KMC x10 chain on shimano dyna sys.
What I will suggest is to stay away from dyna-sys system. I have broken many shimano chains on that system. 3 shimano and 1 SRAM. I did not try the KMC on the system unfortantley, but I am told it too will most likely break. The reason being is that the teeth on the rings are to sharp and will tear apart chains. Which it did on the following chains all within 20 XC rides.
So if I were you I would look into something else. Sorry but I am only looking out for your knee. I would hate for you to put KMC on and have it break under hard shift.
