i have an xt crank and bb setup. saturday on a long climb my bottem end started creaking,nocking but only under pressure. my first thought was the chain so i lubed it up but no good. their is no play in the cranks. i just replaced the bottem end last fall and took them apart and relubed and re-torqued for this comming season. before i buy a new bb are there any monkeys who can give me some insight. thanks

Is this a newer setup? Are the cranks and bb splined? If so, make sure the contact points are well greased. Secure cranks, chainring bolts, and pedals.

Creaking is usually a sign of a lack of lubrication on the bb.

Knocking is usually a sign of a lack of torque on the crank arms.

Also, you may wanna check your bb cups. I had the same problem awhile back and found out that the cups were loose. So just retighten them and you should be all set!

thanks guys! they are newer octalink xt cranks and now that i think about it i did not lube the cranks. duh!
