I actually prefer the Oury Odi's over the regular Ourys for the sticky rubber. As for grip thickness, I shave some of the rubber off.Heath- Ourys are really fat. Personally they hurt my hands. For semi-fat grips I think ODI Rouge Lock-ons are better, and Ruffians (thin) are the best.
that sounds sweet. 6" bikes with dh geo are so much fun to ride. if i can afford a new bike next season i would love to go with something like that.( I am building a 6+6" DH racebike for next year...)

yeah i've been having a blast this season voiding the warranty on my stumpjumper. there are sections where i am just over my head because it is too steep, but it works for me most of the time.I had a ton of fun riding and racing on a bike with a Pike up front and 6" in the rear the last part of the season this year. I am going to make it a priority to be able to start the season with something similar as an option. I may be 5'10" and a 165# and pretty strong, but I still ride like the little anorexic XC girl I used to be. I have more fun on a short travel bike, and my times compare favorably with when I am on the full DH bike, so I figure why not? It will be a good combination of a good bit of homemade links and what not for the R9, and using my Passion VST trail bike for things that it is not designed for. There are certainly times and courses that the full on 10" assault is awesome, but for me right now less traction and control in reserve is more fun and faster to boot. DH bike design is all about geometry for me.
Yeah, I run ruffians now, I have tried others but don't really notice any difference; probably close in diameter. Ruffians work great...if it ain't broke...Heath- Ourys are really fat. For wheels, I'd recommend 721s on Hadley/Hope/I9 (I9 is making regular hubs for 07). The thing I don't like about I9s is they're really expensive and they're so stiff that IMO they wouldn't be comfy and compliant. I run Singletracks (which I like 'cause they don't flat) but everyone else hates them.
