So, has anyone heard what the Pro course is going to be like this year? Any big jumps? Personally I'm really hoping for the same jumps as last year but with how much complaining people did, I'm doubting that will happen. Also any word on why there's absolutely no Pro practice on Sat? I know all amateur categories are racing on Sat. but they could fit in two hours of practice somewhere!

Oh well, just my questions for those of you in the know. Can't wait to be there!!

What happened to having the championships at the end of the season? This schedule is stupid. Most ski area bike parks will have been open for a month or less. I've got 2 real days of DHing and state champs are in 2 weeks, nationals in 3. Should they start holding the Super Bowl in early November?

National championships are held world wide in the (northern hemisphere) in the same 2 week period. It's a UCI regulation.

1) Trail? The Sol Vista boys will keep it a secret until the last minute:thumb:
2) Big jumps? Yes.
3) Complaining? EF that, Matty and the guys will build what they want. Haters gonna hate. I think Sol Vista is well beyond listening to the internet for advice.

National championships are used as qualifiers for world championships among other things, which are held in September.
The first 5 days of September. Remember when world champs were the last race of the season? The world cup was over, as were all national series. Even if they want to run worlds a month or so earlier than in the 90s I don't see why nationals have to be held in mid July.

that worked well for the 4X last year
HAHAHA, ya that's true!

Cool, I'm stoked then. Me personally, I like jumping and like one of the park guys said last year "if your racing license says 'Pro' you should not be whining and complaining about some jumps, Pro means you can do what's put on the course." VERY true, gotta give mad props to those guys!!!

So glad to see those jumps again! Looking good though, can't wait to head out there. Only part that sucks is the drive out (on Wed. the 14th) involves me spending 17hrs in a car on my birthday...again.... At least it's not my 21st b. day again, that was lame!

jumps are cool and everything but the sacrificing a good course just to add some big jumps is lame. I will say they do a good job of working with what little terrain they have.

Colorado State Champs were this past weekend at Crested Butte.

Not that I race pro... But according to the schedule there is no Pro DH practice on Saturday, is this true?

Also, I hope I'm not practicing the Pro XC course before my Cat1 DH race on Saturday
"12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Practice- DH- C1 Pro XC Course"

Yes...they have clarified that on the schedule. Since your registration closes saturday after the CAT 1 DH event, this would also mean you are racing the pro course Sunday.

Friday 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Practice- DH- Pro & C1/17-18m
Pro DH Course

Sunday: 3:15 p.m.
Race- DH- Pro Male & C1/17-18m
Pro DH Course

I heard the CAT 1 course will have the same route and jumps this year ??

Yep this seems kind of silly. Spend 5 days and ride 7 hours? ..Can we get someone from the Pro GRT to show Sol Vista how to lay out a race schedule?

I have no dog in the fight, but since I'm bored at work I'll post up.

There seems to be adequate practice for pros plus there is qualifying, just odd to not have practice on Saturday. Not helpful for those that might have a job and don't want or can't take off Thursday to practice. But if other trails are open to ride then I wouldn't worry about it. For me I usually can pick up my lines in a morning practice session (I'm a plowing hack). Then as long as I can stay loose on my bike in similar dirt I'm ok.

I agree that the schedule is pretty silly, however, the event organizers have several races to balance - xc, dh, stxc, sd, 4X - and with limited trails and manpower only so many things can happen at once. The ProGRT is typically just dh, hence the abundant amount of practice.

National events are known for having limited practice time, but a day of down time is pretty lame. Maybe they can do something like they did last year and run C1 and Pro at the same time (since they are on completely different courses for 75% of the run) and have the pro's re-routed at the bottom. I'm sure people will still complain, but something is better than nothing and I'm sure they would appreciate more time to get the hucks dialed in before race day. Based on the schedule, it doesn't look like any other races/events would take away from the manpower requirements at that time.

just for clarification, the solvista bike park has nothing to do with the schedule, that is the race organizers' and USAC's responsibility.

the pro dh course is shaping up nicely with a good mix of every kind of terrain. expect a trail tour video of it soon.

i don't know what the amateur race course is or if "the jumps" are being used on any race course, but the 3 amigo jumps from last year have been turned into the 2 amigos and are considerably smaller for everyday riding at SolVista.

this videos shows them at 46 seconds...stoked for nats!

AND if you have the means, bring your xc/trail bike. there's plenty of singletrack to keep you entertained for 1/2 hour ride or 4 hour ride.

Also for clarification: I emailed the director of operations at Bigfoot Productions (the promoter of the race) about the schedule and he indicated that USA Cycling came up with that. I believe the contact at USAC for questions concerning the National Championships is Kelli Lusk, her contact information can be found on this page right here:

Regardless, I'm stoked for this race! Last year was way dope with everyone in from all over, all the factory rigs kickin' it in the base area, and heaps of hubbub going on all the time. Now I just gotta get some time offa work so I can be there every day!
