What is likely to wear first,the cleat or the pedal mechanism?

I've been offered a pair of second hand pedals very cheep to go with my new shoes but will need to get a pair of cleats for them.The pedals are about six months old and dont show any wear.Will new cleats work ok with them?

If the pedals cheap, go for it! Replacement cleats are cheap...can't hurt!

cleats wear a lot faster, especially Time b/c they are designed to kind of mold to your release angle, and they are a softer metal.

Has shown that genuine shimano cleats wear much slower than some of the aftermarkets available. The others are cheaper but you get what you pay for. Also a tip for anyone- I buy two sets of cleats so I always have a pair ready to put on as soon as mine get a little worn out. i find this wears the pedal less quickly and since I am prone to procrastination (I think I spelled that right, I always meant to look it up) if I have the cleats handy I will change them rather than let them wear out and cause a crash.

Cleats wear much faster than the pedals. Definatly go for that deal, you won't regret it.
